Companies with strong political connections may be more likely to escape scrutiny over greenwashing, according to new research from our Business School.

Led by Professor Joseph Amankwah-Amoah, the study suggests that businesses investing heavily in lobbying and political engagement can face less criticism of their environmental claims, allowing misleading sustainability messaging to flourish.

The researchers are calling for stronger safeguards, greater transparency and independent oversight to help ensure organisations are held accountable for their environmental claims.
