SMITHILLS FARM ARE RECRUITING 🐮
Who fancies joining the Smithills Team?

Over the next 6-8 weeks we are looking to add to our group of fantastic staff at the farm. The positions available are only part time or seasonal but over time potentially some could lead to full time. Work will mainly be weekends and school holidays but some term time work will be available. All applicants must be 16+ years of age.

Farm Guide - Party Host
Helping out in all aspects of farm duties, leading birthday parties and school groups. Some weekdays available must include 1 day at the weekend. 3-5 days per week available (24-40 hours per week). Applicants must be hardworking, enthusiastic and enjoy working with children and animals. Farm experience not necessary.

Weekend Farmhand
Working in all areas of the farm, particularly Pets Corner and donkey rides. Assisting animal handling sessions and doing donkey rides for visiting public. Applicants must be hard working, kind, caring, patient and capable of working in a busy environment. Must enjoy working with children and animals.

Main Entrance Staff
Welcoming customers to the farm in the main entrance and gift shop. 2-5 days per week, must include 1 weekend day (16-40 hours per week). Applicants must be friendly, polite and capable of working in a busy environment. Must be able to use tills, a computer and have a good telephone manner.

Ice creamery Staff
Working in our busy ice cream shops at the farm. Serving ice cream, using tills, stocking shelves etc. Applicants must be friendly, polite and capable of working in a busy environment. 2-5 days per week, (10-30 hours per week). Must include 1 weekend day.

Cafe/Kitchen Staff
Working within our busy cafe/kitchen area, preparing food, serving customers, helping set party food, till work, stocking shelves. 2-5 days per week, must include 1 day at the weekend (10-30 hours per week). Applicants must be able to work in a busy environment under pressure.

After being closed for the last year we are very excited to be preparing for imminent reopening!

To do that we need to get some animal carers in to join the team. If you are looking to work in a well established rescue, helping to improve the lives of animals in need, then this could be the perfect job for you! 💕

Animal Carer Role

We are looking for someone to take charge of the health, happiness, welfare and wellbeing of the animals on site - which will initially be cats and rabbits.

This is a hands on role where the work can be varied, fast paced and at times demanding. There will be countless opportunities to experience new challenges and learn new skills.

What we need:

* Previous animal care experience, particularly with cats and/or rabbits

* A clean, full manual driving license (ideally with access to own vehicle)

* Animal qualifications are preferred

* Someone who is compassionate, hard working and dedicated to the values of the rescue

* A person who is flexible, adaptable and works well under pressure - able to make decisions and use their initiative to problem solve when necessary

* The ability to work independently and as part of the larger team of trustees, staff and volunteers

* Good communication skills and basic IT skills

* Experience of working with volunteers and acting a source of support, encouragement and training

* A decent level of physical fitness

* A flexible approach to working hours/shift patterns

* An understanding of/experience working in a non-profit environment

* A commitment to helping us continually improve welfare understanding and standards across the charity

This job will be based at our rescue site in Stretford, Manchester. The starting salary will be minimum wage and we are flexible on whether full time or part time for the right person.

Working days will be flexible over 7 days.

Little research has been done into those who keep Theraphosidae as pets, and we hope this study will improve understanding of the community, so their needs can be more appropriately met.

The questionnaire at the link above is the culmination of years of work by tarantula keepers, for tarantula keepers.
