Ben Fletcher-Watson, Deputy Director of IASH, outlines the various programmes for both senior and early-career scholars, including eligibility and finding a mentor at the University of Edinburgh, insights into the facilities and funding available, as well as hints and tips for crafting a successful application.

The deadline for senior and mid-career applicants is 27 February 2026.

Happy National Poetry Day! 📖
To mark the day and celebrate poetry’s power, here’s the story of Dr Georgi Gill.
After being diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS at the age of 28, she turned to poetry as a means to explore what it means to live with the disease and help to explain it to others.
During the 2020 Covid lockdown as part of her PhD at the University she started hosting online workshops for people with MS, empowering them to use verse to unlock ways of expressing life with the condition.
Georgi, who is now a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities - University of Edinburgh, is on the cusp of publishing an anthology of poems from these sessions. 🎉 🎈
She is also about to launch a new project with MS Society Scotland to train staff and volunteers on the power of poetry in supporting people with a range of neurological conditions.

Dr. Karly Kehoe, a distinguished scholar in Saint Mary's Department of History, has been named a Fellow of The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) / La Société royale du Canada (SRC). This prestigious honour recognizes Dr. Kehoe’s groundbreaking historical research on the displacement and migration of religious minorities from the Scottish Highlands and Ireland, and their settlement in Atlantic Canada.
