To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, our weave specialism students were presented with an amazing opportunity by the Scottish Government. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 x 🇺🇲

Tasked with creating a unique tartan that symbolises the ties between Scotland and the United States, students’ submissions were reviewed by a celebrated panel of judges.

The selected design will be added to the Scottish Register of Tartans, and launched in Washington DC in partnership with the Scottish Government, USA and America250.org. Our winning student will be traveling to the U.S. for the unveiling as well.

A final-year student at Heriot-Watt University is using fashion to drive meaningful change.
Farah Conn, studying Fashion Technology at our School of Textiles and Design, has developed Little Waves — an innovative childrenswear collection designed specifically for children with autism.

The collection combines inclusive design, sensory support and emotional wellbeing, featuring ultra-soft fabrics, label-free garments and discreet sensory elements such as built-in fidget tools and interchangeable patches. Developed in collaboration with parents, carers and professionals, the project responds directly to real-life challenges faced by families.

Farah’s work highlights the power of research-led design to create practical, impactful solutions while ensuring children feel confident, comfortable and included.

Little Waves will be showcased at our School of Textiles and Design Degree Show in Galashiels later this week. The annual event, which is free to attend, showcases 90 inspiring student projects that are shaping the future of fashion and textiles.

A landmark partnership, will see academic expertise from a leading Scottish university be used to help strengthen the growth of a Scottish Premiership football club.

Heriot‑Watt University has secured more than £200,000 in funding to deliver the UK’s first ever Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with a professional football club, working alongside Falkirk Football Club.

The 25‑month project, funded by UKRI through Innovate UK, will bring Heriot‑Watt
researchers directly into the day‑to‑day operations of the fan-owned club to strengthen its long‑term financial sustainability and ownership structure.
