Luna is the UK’s most popular pet name, according to new research.

A major new survey of cats and dogs has revealed the nation’s favourite pet names, with Luna taking the top spot overall.

The names were collected from owners taking part in a wider SRUC-led study for the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, investigating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in healthy cats and dogs.

While the names help researchers track samples throughout the study, they have also provided an interesting insight into the names of the nation’s much-loved pets.

Luna is the most popular name among cats and the overall favourite across both cats and dogs, while Bella is the most common name among dogs taking part in the research.
