We have a winner! The 2026 Being Edinburgh Alumni Award goes to...🥁

Sabrina Tickle, BA Education Studies 2015, co-founder of The WHY Project 🏆👏

Congratulations to Sabrina on this well-deserved recognition and thank you to all alumni, students and staff who voted and supported our extraordinary nominees this year.

Sabrina is a youth sector leader with over 15 years’ experience supporting children, young people and families affected by poverty and inequality. She co-founded The WHY Project in South West Edinburgh, a grassroots organisation that has grown into a registered charity. It now engages over 120 young people each week, delivering five nights of youth provision for children and young people aged 10–18, offering a stable “home away from home” built on safety and trusted relationships.

“No one goes into this kind of work expecting awards, but the fact this has come from the University of Edinburgh, which played such a significant role in my life, and that it's been voted for, makes it feel really meaningful." – Sabrina

Thank you to alumna Lisa Foster who was part of a group that created a stunning mural for the All4Paws project in their Nicolson St location. All4Paws is a student-led outreach project, providing support and advice to homeless or vulnerably housed people with animals in Edinburgh.

The installation will provide a welcoming environment for all who visit and it is wonderful to see that Lisa keeping her connection to the University alive in this way.

If you’d like to know more about All4Paws or support their work, you can visit the website 🔗 https://edin.ac/3RF9ZeA

A splash of colour makes a difference at a vet charity.

A mural has transformed a community veterinary service that provides free care and support for pets owned by people experiencing homelessness or financial hardship.

The gallery-style work in the University of Edinburgh's All4Paws charity's outreach space creates a warm, welcoming environment for the people and pets who rely on its services.

The project brought together students from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and York School of Art through a collaboration facilitated by Dick Vet graduate Lisa Foster. Inspired by All4Paws' values of animal welfare, trust and empathy, the mural reflects the heart of the charity's work.

It brings creativity and collaboration together, to enhance a space that provides vital support to people and their beloved companions.
