❤️ | An student has drawn inspiration from her gran to design a space for people experiencing hair loss.

Morven MacKinnon’s project, The Wellness Factory, is the concept of a treatment centre based in the Biscuit Factory in Leith.

Her work is on display alongside fellow Interior & Spatial Design students as part of – which is currently being held at its Merchiston campus.

A combination of sketches, visual renderings and a scale model, The Wellness Factory imagines a treatment centre specialising in hair loss and regrowth, with a strong focus on nutrition and overall wellbeing of an individual.

It is designed as an inviting, stress-free environment, with an open plan food hall and breakout areas to promote connection and recovery.

The 22-year-old was inspired by loved ones who have experienced hair loss.

Olivia Baird drew on her experience of working in commercial kitchens to develop the uniquely uncomfortable utensils as part of her project Chef Gate.

The 21-year-old from Kirkcaldy hopes they could be used to deliver training exercises for chefs to help them understand the difficulties women face in kitchens. Her project takes on pervasive issues such as sexual harassment and dismissive behaviour.

Chef Gate is on show alongside the work of other students at ENU’s 2026 Degree Show, which opens to the public today.

🎻 | An PhD researcher who has been providing accessible (cost-free) violin & viola workshops for adults across rural Scotland has recently returned from Sweden where she gained an insight into the musical success story of 'Stråkorkester för Alla' - String Orchestra for Everyone.

Arianna Ranieri launched CIMSRS – the Community Instrumental Music Service for Rural Scotland – as part of her PhD which has seen her providing music tuition across Scotland in places such as Millport, Auchtermuchty and Glencoe.

It was through this work that Arianna met Anna Risberg – director of Stråkorkester för Alla – after she spoke at the CIMSRS Symposium in May 2025 at Craiglockhart.

Formed in 2011, Stråkorkester för Alla - String Orchestra for Everyone consists of nearly 50 musicians of all abilities who come together every week for practice. Participation is free and there are instruments available to lend to new members who don’t have their own.

During her visit, Arianna led a rehearsal session with the orchestra while also learning more about what participants get from being part of it – from regular instrument practice and performance to a renewed sense of belonging, access to a support network, friendships for life and more!

Arianna continues to study towards her PhD here at Edinburgh Napier. If you would like to learn more about CIMSRS, please visit her Instagram here ➡️ https://orlo.uk/MCqn0 or you can learn more here ➡️ https://orlo.uk/nNvId
