Join us on 19 June for the Inaugural Lecture of Professor Kasey McCall-Smith, titled The Art and Alchemy of Human Rights Interpretation.

Professor McCall-Smith holds the Chair of International Law and Human Rights and is Director of the Global Justice Academy. Her research explores how human rights treaties are interpreted and incorporated into national law.

There's only 1 week left to enter the Mason Institute Student Essay competition!

Winners at undergraduate and postgraduate level will receive a cash prize of £200 and the top 3 in both categories will be mentioned on the Mason Institute website.

Essays must be written on a topic that falls within the broad scope of the MI’s work on ethics and law at the interface between health, medicine and the life sciences at a national and global scale.

Submit you essay by Friday 29 May 2026.

Last week, Primary 6 pupils from Pirniehall Primary and Forthview Primary competed in the School Tasking Scottish Regional Final hosted by Addleshaw Goddard LLP.

School Tasking is an outreach initiative inspired by the TV show Taskmaster, using creative challenges to introduce young people to the legal system and show that a career in law is for everyone. This year's tasks included making stop-motion animations about murder at sea, wrangling rice through a colander, and disguising biscuits.

A massive congratulations to Team "On Top" from Forthview Primary, who won the day and are now heading to the UK Final in June! 🏆

We’re delighted to share that Professor Braun has been elected as a Fellow of the Accademia delle Scienze di Torino.

This prestigious Academy, founded in 1783, recognises leading scholars contributing to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge.

Professor Braun’s research explores comparative law, legal history, and the movement of legal ideas across traditions.

She will be formally inaugurated in November 2026.
