A major milestone for innovation in Scotland!

Today marked the official opening of the Edinburgh Innovation Hub (EIH), a £40 million joint venture between East Lothian Council and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
Officially opened by UK Government Minister for Scotland Melanie Ward and Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport Stephen Flynn, the Hub will support ambitious businesses in life sciences, food and drink, technology and other high-growth sectors.
Already home to pioneering companies including Forge Minerals, Aurora Avionics and RiverWood Ecology, EIH is helping create high-value jobs, foster innovation and drive economic growth across East Lothian and beyond.

There are still spaces for our Gender Justice: Feminist Approaches short course.

Violence against women and struggles for gender justice cannot be separated from the historical and political contexts, and power relationships, that shape them. QMU's short course explores these issues through a feminist lens and is suitable for anyone committed to using the insights of feminism to better understand and tackle gender-based violence. The course:

People of QMU ♦️

🌍 Sheila Adamson is QMU's Partnership Development Manager, working with organisations that deliver QMU programmes across the UK and around the world. She also helps identify and develop new partnerships, supporting institutions through the University's approval process.

♠️ Away from work, Sheila is a competitive bridge player who has represented Scotland at the highest level. Having learnt the game as a teenager in a card-playing family, she's spent years developing the logical thinking, partnership skills and competitive instinct needed to succeed in one of the world's most challenging mind sports.

🏆 As a regular member of the Scottish women's team, bridge has taken Sheila across the globe, from the World Bridge Games in Beijing, where competitors stayed in the Olympic Village, to the North American Championships in Las Vegas. Among her proudest achievements are winning the Women's Home Internationals for Scotland six times and representing the Scottish Open team.

🧠 For Sheila, bridge is a game you never fully master. There is always something new to learn, which is why it has become a lifelong passion for so many people, herself included. As a regular member of the Scottish women's team, Sheila is also interested in the ongoing discussion around why women remain under-represented at the highest levels of bridge and other mind sports.

Last week, QMU was proud to contribute a flower arrangement to St Margaret’s Chapel at Edinburgh Castle. 💐🏰

Fresh flowers are placed in the chapel each week by members of the St Margaret’s Chapel Guild, whose members all share the name Margaret, or a derivative of it. Our beautiful arrangement was created by QMU’s Student Retention and Data Insights Manager Heather Hartley, who has a City & Guilds qualification in flower arranging and previously worked as a wedding florist for almost 10 years. 🌿✨

With an existing passion for theatre and filmmaking, MSc Digital Campaigning and Content Creation graduate Shamama Fatima chose the course to develop her practical creative skills alongside an understanding of content strategy, marketing and audience engagement.

Since graduating, she has gone on to build a career as a director, writer and performer, working across theatre and film. She is currently directing Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Innsmouth Crown at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

For QMU graduate Luis Mutch, studying BA (Hons) Acting and Performance gave him the opportunity to develop his skills in a supportive environment, where tutors challenged and encouraged him to reach his potential.

Since graduating, Luis has continued to work as a professional actor, performing in productions across the UK. You can currently find him at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the show Carnegie.
