QMU is here to help and offer advice on a range of matters that may affect you. Our Recruitment and International Liaison Office is here to help and advise you through all the stages of the application process. If you have any queries about entry requirements, UCAS, or just general worries about coming to university, our friendly staff is here to help. If you live outwith the UK, the Recruitment and International Liaison (RILO) Office is definitely your first point of contact at QMU. As an international student, you will have a different school qualification to our UK students and the RILO team are able to advise on what youā€™ll need to get into our courses. They will also help you make moving and studying in a new country a stress free experience. If you are thinking of coming to QMU as an international student, please visit the international students section of our website, where you will find information on applying, fees, language support and cost of living. We also recognise that not every one leaves school and goes immediately to university. You may have spent a few years working, may be at college, or may be returning to education after having a family. At QMU, we consider all applicants over 21 as a mature student and we can provide information, advise and guidance on making this transistion to university: you may have concerns about child care as you study, you may be scared about essay writing ā€“ whatever it is, we can help. Support for mature students is provided by the Student Services team, who can also give advice on disability, finance, student mentors and counseling, to name but a few.

āš½As international football takes centre stage this summer, we're celebrating a fantastic achievement by QMU Sports Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy lecturer Carolyn Kent who has just returned from working with the Scottish Women's National Team as one of their physiotherapists.

šŸ‘Scotland topped their UEFA Women's Nations League group and secured promotion to Group A, a significant milestone on their journey towards qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 in Brazil.

šŸ¤©The team's success means they will compete in playoff matches later this year. Congratulations to Carolyn and the Scotland squad, and best of luck for the next stage of qualification!

šŸ¤©QMU has launched the first Anti-Ableism Challenge Badge for Girlguiding UK, helping thousands of young people learn about disability, inclusion and equality through engaging and practical activities.

Developed by QMUā€™s Toy Box Diversity Lab and co-created with disabled people, the badge encourages Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and volunteers to challenge stereotypes, improve accessibility and become advocates for positive change.

From learning Braille to redesigning spaces for greater inclusion, the badge provides fun, meaningful ways to build understanding and create more inclusive communities.

Two QMU academics have taken to the international stage to share their research on hidden histories and performance.

Dr Victoria Bianchi and Dr Andy Henry delivered a keynote at the Irish Society for Theatre Research Conference in Dublin, exploring how creative practice and digital technologies can bring overlooked stories to life.

Their work on Glasgow Green shows how places are shaped not just by official narratives, but by the everyday experiences and voices of the people who use them.

Now in its fourth year, this festival-style event gives S4ā€“S6 pupils the chance to explore a wide range of healthcare careers through hands-on workshops, interactive sessions and campus tours.

From CPR demonstrations to ultrasound technology and even exploring the psychology of food, Healthfest offers a unique opportunity to experience what studying healthcare at QMU is really like.

Importantly, the event supports pupils - many from Scottish in disadvantaged communities - to make informed choices about their future and opens up pathways into vital healthcare professions.

Held at Scotland House London, the evening brought graduates together to reconnect, share stories and strengthen the connections that make the QMU community so special.

A highlight of the event was our ā€œIn Conversation withā€¦ā€ session featuring QMU graduate Steve Parkinson (Brand and Marketing Director at Allwyn UK), who shared insights from his career journey and his work on major National Lottery campaigns.

The evening perfectly captured the collaborative and supportive spirit of QMU ā€“ from inspiring discussion to relaxed networking with old friends and new connections.

QMU is proud to be a partner in tackling child poverty.

As part of Universities Scotland's new campaign , today, we're highlighting how universities can help create a fairer start in life for every child and make a positive difference to families across Scotland.

One example is QMU's award-winning Enhanced Learning Tutoring Initiative (ELTI), which supports senior school pupils most impacted by poverty. Since launching in 2020, the programme has helped thousands of young people across East and Midlothian to stay engaged with learning, improve attainment and achieve their potential.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government in August 2025, ELTI was able to expand across the central belt, meaning almost 500 pupils in Midlothian and Glasgow have received additional one-to-one tutoring support, delivered by QMU and University of Glasgow students, graduates and retired teachers.

By helping young people overcome barriers to learning and progress to university, training or further study, ELTI is helping to close the attainment gap and create greater equality of opportunity.

On 16 June, QMU will lead a national discussion on the future of responsible tourism - a sector that plays a vital role in Scotlandā€™s economy and communities.

Through a series of discussions and interactive sessions, the collaborative workshop will bring key stakeholders together to share experiences, discuss emerging challenges and identify practical solutions to support a more resilient and inclusive visitor economy.

Key topics covered at the event will include:
āž”ļø workforce wellbeing and meaningful employment in tourism
āž”ļø skills development and talent attraction within the visitor economy
āž”ļø residentsā€™ perceptions of tourism and community participation
āž”ļø the adoption of sustainable practices that support responsible travel

This year, our partner institution in Nepal, Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management (SMSH), celebrates its 25th anniversary.

SMSH, one of Nepalā€™s leading hospitality institutions, has been dedicated to preparing students with the skills, experience and global outlook to excel in international hospitality careers.

We are delighted to celebrate 15 years of partnership with SMSH. Together we have been awarding QMU degrees to hundreds of students in international hospitality, tourism and culinary arts from the SMSH campus in Kathmandu. QMUā€™s Deputy Principal, Professor Richard Butt, is just returning from Nepal after presiding over SMSHā€™s 20th graduation ceremony and joining colleagues, graduates and students in celebrating the institutionā€™s 25th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, Professor Butt was interviewed by Pranesh Manandhar for a special Silver Stream podcast on global hospitality education where they explored what makes the QMU and SMSH collaboration so impactful, as well as what employers are really looking for and where a hospitality degree can take you.

The Hub supports current and future teachers, community educators, activists and volunteer leaders, while also serving as a valuable resource for the wider local community.

This project forms part of Universities Scotland's Universal Partners campaign, showcasing how universities are working collaboratively to create opportunities and tackle challenges across Scotland.
