Don’t get lost in the crowd: Study with us! We stand for person-centred education and teaching, and

At Queen Margaret University, we offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of healthcare; drama and the creative industries; media, communication and sociology; and business and enterprise. We also have a number of continuing professional development (CPD) courses, which will be of interest to anyone who is wishing to update their current professional skills. We rec

ognise that becoming a student is a big step and there are a number of factors that you’ll need to consider in advance. QMU is here to help and offer advice on a range of matters that may affect you. Our Recruitment and International Liaison Office is here to help and advise you through all the stages of the application process. If you have any queries about entry requirements, UCAS, or just general worries about coming to university, our friendly staff is here to help. If you live outwith the UK, the Recruitment and International Liaison (RILO) Office is definitely your first point of contact at QMU. As an international student, you will have a different school qualification to our UK students and the RILO team are able to advise on what you’ll need to get into our courses. They will also help you make moving and studying in a new country a stress free experience. If you are thinking of coming to QMU as an international student, please visit the international students section of our website, where you will find information on applying, fees, language support and cost of living. We also recognise that not every one leaves school and goes immediately to university. You may have spent a few years working, may be at college, or may be returning to education after having a family. At QMU, we consider all applicants over 21 as a mature student and we can provide information, advise and guidance on making this transistion to university: you may have concerns about child care as you study, you may be scared about essay writing – whatever it is, we can help. Support for mature students is provided by the Student Services team, who can also give advice on disability, finance, student mentors and counseling, to name but a few.

✨QMU is proud to support public services through teaching, research and innovation.

Developed in partnership with Architecture and Design Scotland - A&DS and NatureScot, our Outdoor Learning Hub and Discovery Trail helps educators build the confidence and skills to make the most of learning beyond the classroom.

The Hub supports current and future teachers, community educators, activists and volunteer leaders, while also serving as a valuable resource for the wider local community.

This project forms part of Universities Scotland's Universal Partners campaign, showcasing how universities are working collaboratively to create opportunities and tackle challenges across Scotland.

Last week, QMU welcomed educators, researchers and practitioners from across Scotland, the UK, Ireland, Europe and North America for the 2026 International Forum for Peer Learning and Support.

Hosted by QMU and organised in collaboration with the Association for Peer Learning and Support and the European Centre for SI:PASS, the forum brought together around 150 delegates to share ideas, research and innovative practice in peer learning and student support.

A particular highlight of the event was the incredible contribution from students, with more than 20 student presenters taking part - a reflection of the collaborative ethos at the heart of peer learning.

The programme featured presentations, lightning talks, workshops and round-table discussions exploring topics including:
✨ Technology in peer learning
✨ Inclusive practice
✨ Programme evaluation
✨ Effective peer learning on limited budgets
✨ Research and publishing in peer learning and support

Attendees heard inspiring insights from presenters across the globe, with keynote speaker Vikki Hill, QMU’s Director of Learning Enhancement and Academic Development, exploring compassion in student partnership.

Alongside the main forum, delegates took part in additional workshops focused on supporting publication and evaluation within the field, while Thursday evening’s social event in Edinburgh offered a fantastic opportunity for international colleagues to connect ahead of the conference.

QMU’s long-standing commitment to peer learning is reflected in our Peer Assisted Learning Scheme (PALS), where trained student mentors support collaborative learning across a wide range of subjects.

🤩 QMU’s inspiring QMU150 anniversary campaign, Acting with Head, Heart and Hand, has been nominated for a HEIST Award 2026, celebrating excellence and innovation in education marketing!

QMU150 has been shortlisted in the Best Brand/Reputation Campaign category for its bold celebration of the University’s heritage and future. Rather than taking a traditional commemorative approach, QMU used its 150th anniversary to reinvigorate the University community’s shared sense of purpose, and as part of that, breathing life into an old institutional motto: ‘Head, Heart and Hand’.

By bringing together students, staff, alumni, and partners, QMU150 encouraged people to reflect on 150 years of purpose-driven education and to recognise the broader value of higher education in society. The result is a legacy-focused campaign that not only celebrates the past but also inspires collective ambition for the years ahead.

Congratulations to all involved 👏! Winners of the HEIST Awards will be announced at the finals on 9th July.

Today, QMU is hosting the Lydia Osteoporosis Symposium, bringing together people living with osteoporosis, carers, researchers, health and social care professionals, and the wider community to tackle one of the UK’s most overlooked health conditions.

Often described as a 'silent' condition, osteoporosis affects millions across the UK, yet remains under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated. Today’s symposium is focused on changing that - raising awareness, sharing the latest research, and empowering people with practical knowledge on bone health and fracture prevention.

The event is fully booked, highlighting the growing demand for greater awareness, prevention and action around osteoporosis.

Led by the Lydia Osteoporosis Project team, the symposium creates space for learning, discussion and shared experience.
