Our first year Agriculture students enjoyed a trip to Go Ape Dalkeith Edinburgh as part of their Welcome Week activities. This was a tremendous opportunity for this group to get to know each other before the hard work begins!

AgriScot has launched the 2026 Business Skills Awards, marking 16 years of the prestigious competition, with a top prize of £1,000 for the winner, kindly sponsored by Virgin Money UK

Looking for a flexible job whilst you study? Become a Student Partner! This year, our Student Partners will get the chance to work on an exciting project- the review of SRUC’s Class Rep system. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to develop your skills, gain valuable experience and enhance your CV whilst making a real difference. It’s open to any SRUC student, and no prior experience is needed. Student Partners can expect to work 20 hours over the course of the academic year, at a time and pace that suits you. It is paid at the Living Wage, and you’ll be supported by a staff member.

This is James looking very proud with the ewes he helped lamb on his placement. James’s background is mainly arable farming and he has a really good understanding of machinery.

For his placement he chose to take on a lambing in Cupar, Fife, which consisted of 230 ewes. There was also a small bit of tractor work as well. He undertook all the roles, understanding the need for lambs to receive colostrum, the technique of stomach tubing and the difficulties that the ewes can appear to have when the lambs are not presented correctly.

Jasmine comes from a dairy farm in Moffat. For her placement, Jasmine worked on her own farm, milking 130 dairy cows and undertook general tasks on the farm. At this time of year, they also have store lambs to help with the grazing regime and there was a lot of organising involved getting them off to the market. Jasmine was also heavily involved in preparing a bull for the annual pedigree spring bull sale.
