Edinburgh College Music & Sound Production

Edinburgh College Music & Sound Production Edinburgh College offers comprehensive programmes in Music, Music Business and Sound Production. Our Music courses are unique in Further Education in Scotland.

Edinburgh College has a long-established reputation for excellence in Music, Music Business and Sound Production education. We provide a broad range of courses in each area, catering for students of diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. We welcome applicants from all musical backgrounds and disciplines, including classical, popular, traditional and jazz. Rehearsal and performance are at th

e heart of what we offer: students work regularly in supervised groups such as bands, instrumental ensembles, choirs and orchestras as appropriate. We offer training in many other related disciplines: composition, songwriting, recording, writing about music, music theory, community music and more. Our Music Business courses are an ideal start for those who wish to break into the music industry. Students gain up-to-date, specialist knowledge of all the major areas of the industry, including scouting for new acts, managing artists’ careers, the evolving nature of record companies, and the organisation and promotion of music events; legal subjects such as contracts and copyright are also covered. The courses have real-life, practical experience as a central focus; students have the opportunity to work with the college’s own record label FEAST records. Our Sound Production courses provide opportunities for students to learn about the creative processes of recording, production, mixing and mastering. The equipment housed at our Milton Road campus is unmatched in any educational facility in Scotland: four flagship SSL AWS900+ studios, with industry-standard software including ProTools, Ableton and Ozone. Students experience a wide range of genres of live and electronic music, and learn important subject theory such as microphone techniques, time-domain and dynamic effects, and acoustics. Music, Music Business and Sound Production are based in The Music Box (Sighthill) and CRE:8 (Milton Road): both purpose-built venues boast state-of-the-art facilities.

Some of our music students have definitely not stopped for the summer yet! 🎷🥁

They have still been working hard with StreetMash Band, Edinburgh College’s wind and drums street band, getting ready for Edinburgh Carnival tomorrow — 19 July.

This year the band is arriving with a new image, new music and new vibes, bringing colour, energy, big drums, brass, saxophones, Latin grooves and plenty of carnival spirit to the city.

Come along, cheer them on, and support our students and the whole StreetMash band at one of Edinburgh’s biggest and most vibrant community celebrations.

StreetMash at Edinburgh Carnival
📅 Tomorrow — 19 July
🥁 Parade: 1.00pm
🎷 Stage performance: 4.30pm
📍 Parade route: Edinburgh city centre / Princes Street
📍 Stage: Drum Stage, West Princes Street Gardens

🎶 Edinburgh College Music Ensembles Tour 2026 🎶

What an incredible few days on the road! A couple of weeks ago, our music ensembles were out on tour across the Scottish Borders, performing for primary schools in West Linton, Dumfries, Peebles and Moffat.

Students from our String Ensemble, Wind Band, Trad Band, Choir, Street Mash and Flute Ensemble had the opportunity to share their music with hundreds of young people and represent Edinburgh College on the road.

We finished the tour with a fantastic evening concert in Moffat Town Hall in aid of Spike Aware UK. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event.

Well done to all of our students and staff involved – a brilliant few days of music-making and a great way to end the academic year!

Tour vlog coming soon....
