Edinburgh College has a long-established reputation for excellence in Music, Music Business and Sound Production education. We provide a broad range of courses in each area, catering for students of diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. We welcome applicants from all musical backgrounds and disciplines, including classical, popular, traditional and jazz. Rehearsal and performance are at th
e heart of what we offer: students work regularly in supervised groups such as bands, instrumental ensembles, choirs and orchestras as appropriate. We offer training in many other related disciplines: composition, songwriting, recording, writing about music, music theory, community music and more. Our Music Business courses are an ideal start for those who wish to break into the music industry. Students gain up-to-date, specialist knowledge of all the major areas of the industry, including scouting for new acts, managing artists’ careers, the evolving nature of record companies, and the organisation and promotion of music events; legal subjects such as contracts and copyright are also covered. The courses have real-life, practical experience as a central focus; students have the opportunity to work with the college’s own record label FEAST records. Our Sound Production courses provide opportunities for students to learn about the creative processes of recording, production, mixing and mastering. The equipment housed at our Milton Road campus is unmatched in any educational facility in Scotland: four flagship SSL AWS900+ studios, with industry-standard software including ProTools, Ableton and Ozone. Students experience a wide range of genres of live and electronic music, and learn important subject theory such as microphone techniques, time-domain and dynamic effects, and acoustics. Music, Music Business and Sound Production are based in The Music Box (Sighthill) and CRE:8 (Milton Road): both purpose-built venues boast state-of-the-art facilities.
