Royal Holloway Law and Criminology

Royal Holloway Law and Criminology Welcome to the official page of the Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, Un

Law, Criminology and Sociology has an excellent reputation for high quality research and teaching and for its engagement in policy and practice through active involvement with government bodies and voluntary and statutory agencies. Staff in the School of Law have wide-ranging research interests, and have written about many subject areas including; how the criminal justice system deals with mental

health issues, youth justice, ballroom dancing as a leisure pursuit, the power of the pharmaceutical industry, and fear of crime. Law not only teaches the basic principles of law but explores the impact of legal decisions on society and individuals. Much of the research coming out of the Department reflects a shared concern with young people, risk, and victimisation.

Well done to our criminology Professor Rosie Meek whose “groundbreaking research” on sport in prisons was highlighted yesterday by Lord McNally in a debate in the House of Lords. As Chair of the Youth Justice Board Lord McNally was also instrumental in this area.
