Last term our Painting & Decorating students enjoyed a visit from Jim Howard at Ian Williams !

Feedback from tutor Bruce was that the students were really inspired and motivated from the talk!

Some of our students have already applied for jobs with the company - watch this space! 🤞

Thank you again Jim!

The Built Environment department at Folkestone College would like to extend their sincere thanks to Wates Smartspace, part of the , for the donation of a large number of cavity lintels that were surplus to requirements.

Graham Rumsey, Project Manager, has been very supportive of the Folkestone Built Environment department since their site’s inception, with the promise of employer visits, surplus materials and work placements.

Deputy Head Nik Weakley collected the lintels and the Level 1 Bricklayers made short work of storing the materials, which will be used by all of the Brick students as part of their practical work.

Our Built Environment Environmental Pledge includes the reduction of resource consumption by re-using and repurposing resources and we are extremely fortunate to be working with excellent employers such as Wates who share the same sustainability values.

Another big thank you goes out to Spittlywood, a quality joinery company based in Hamstreet, who have taken on one of our Level 2 Joinery students for a four week work placement!

We can’t wait to hear how it goes!

“More than happy to be involved in anyway I can! This is the next generation work force coming through at the end of the day.” – Robert Vincent

We would like to say a thank you to Vincent and Sons, for working with us and welcoming two of our L2 Bricklaying students on a work placement!

It’s fantastic to see our students being supported and encouraged by so many local businesses!

A massive thank you to Will Brown from Browns Construction for hosting our students on work placements.

So far, Will has taken Level 2 Site Carpentry, and Level 2 Plastering students onto two of his current sites, and Heather Williams the ILO for Built has received lovely feedback from him - "All the students you have sent have been great."

Will was himself a student here at Folkestone College a few years ago and now runs his own successful building company.

Four of our T Level students have placements planned with Browns too so watch this space!!

A huge thank you to WW Martin Ltd for working with us and offering our Construction students valuable industry placements, helping them to become the workers of the future!

We've had a great response from local community-minded employers, keen to support the skills development of our and students!

If you would like to get involved in offering a construction industry placement, we'd be delighted to hear from you!

Look what our students and staff have helped out with! Don't they look bright and cheerful?

L2 Bench joinery students have been hard at work on a social action project. After a visit from James Wood - Lee Evans Architectural practice and under the direction and supervision of their tutor Danny Hollands, the full time bench joinery students not only achieved their qualification but made excellent progress by using their remaining course time to apply newly acquired high level joinery skills to repair/restore these windows for the Land Trust - Fort Burgoyne project. The group have been replacing rotten timber, making good old timber and refurbishing in the sliding box sash windows to a working condition.
These works will continue throughout 2021/22.
