To mark Volunteers Week 2026, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to each of our more than 600 inspirational, World Changing volunteers ๐Ÿ’›

Founded in 1451 for the people of our city and grown into a university for the world, the University of Glasgow has been shaped by generations of committed alumni. Your support as a volunteer reflects that same shared commitment to learning, community and meaningful impact that has defined the University for nearly six centuries ๐ŸŒ

Through your time and generosity, you have offered insight, encouragement and guidance to current and prospective students ๐ŸŽ“ Hearing from alumni across a wide range of countries and industries helps our students see new possibilities and understand where their degree can take them. Our alumni board and committee members also play a vital role across the University, bringing diverse perspectives and expertise that strengthen our work and our community ๐Ÿค

Your enthusiasm and commitment make a real difference, not only to individual students but to the global Glasgow alumni network as a whole ๐ŸŒŸ As we celebrate the Universityโ€™s 575th year, we are especially grateful for the part you play in shaping its future.

Thank you for being such a valued part of our World Changing Glasgow community ๐Ÿ’™

Calling our Glasgow based alumni and donor community ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿง โœ๏ธ

Looking for something educational and fun this June?
Join the University of Glasgow for The Big Science Lunch on Monday 8 June, from 10am to 1pm at the Byres Community Hub, Clarice Pears Building.

As part of Glasgow Science Festival 2026, this creative and thought provoking event brings together science and storytelling in a unique writing workshop led by expert physiologists from the University of Glasgow. Youโ€™ll explore the wonder of human biology through imaginative writing activities, from crafting a haiku inspired by physiology to writing from the perspective of an organ. No scientific background is needed, just curiosity and creativity ๐Ÿ’กโค๏ธ

The morning begins with refreshments, registration and an optional tour of the Clarice Pears School of Health and Wellbeing and Byres Community Hub โ˜•๐Ÿ›๏ธ It is then followed by a free lunch funded by The Eden Projectโ€™s Big Lunch, giving everyone a chance to connect and celebrate 20 years of Glasgow Science Festival together ๐Ÿฅช๐ŸŽ‰

This is a brilliant opportunity for local alumni and donors to reconnect with the University of Glasgow, meet others from the community and enjoy a fascinating and friendly event in a fully accessible and inclusive space.

If youโ€™re an alum or donor based locally, weโ€™d love to welcome you. Register here today ๐Ÿ‘‡

Welcome to June, a month that always feels special at the University of Glasgow, especially now in our 575th year ๐Ÿ’ซ

Campus comes alive as we celebrate our summer graduations, with students becoming graduates and new chapters beginning.

We also look ahead to Commemoration Day, a time to reflect, reconnect, and honour the Universityโ€™s community and traditions.

Whether you remember walking across the stage in the Bute Hall, celebrating in the Quads with friends and family, or simply enjoying those long summer days on campus, this time of year holds so many memories.

We would love to hear yours. Share your favourite June memories in the comments or tag us in your photos and stories ๐Ÿ“ธ

This week's features the iconic McMillan Reading Room ๐Ÿ“˜ ๐Ÿ“™ ๐Ÿ“— ๐Ÿ“•

The circular building, commonly known as the Round Reading Room, was built between 1936 and 1939 and was designed as a modern interpretation of the Pantheon in Rome. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Category A-listed, the building was awarded the RIBA bronze medal in 1950 as the best building erected in Scotland between 1936 and 1949.

Until the current library was built in the 1960s, it served as an extension of the library in the Gilbert Scott building. Today, it functions as a study space ๐Ÿ“š and houses selected support services ๐Ÿ’™

Glasgow has changed a lot since this photo was taken in 1947 ๐Ÿ“ธ

The docks were filled to make way for the SEC, and the Western Infirmary is gone. But some things never change - like Park Circus, Kelvingrove ๐ŸŒณ and the Gilbert Scott building! ๐Ÿฐ

Swipe to see the view in 2023 and 1882!

Linsey Young on curating Women in Revolt! and her Glasgow roots ๐ŸŽจ

We caught up with Linsey Young MA 2004 at National Galleries Scotland Modern 2, where her powerful exhibition Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970โ€“1990 was on display. From its debut at Tate Britain to Edinburgh and on to Manchester, this is a show with real impact.

In our latest alumni spotlight, Linsey shares how the exhibition became a personal tribute to her mum and the women of her generation, while also addressing the gaps in how womenโ€™s political art has been taught and recognised.

And for a dose of nostalgia, Linsey takes us back to her student days in the city, think huge tenement flats, Franz Ferdinand, and nights at Optimo.

Watch the full interview and be inspired by creativity, activism, and a Glasgow journey that helped shape it all: https://www.gla.ac.uk/alumni/ouralumni/alumnispotlightseries/
