Incredibly sad news about a true titan of the Union. From running in the Tokyo Olympics (whilst President!) to winning debating championships, Ming represented the absolute best of what student life at Glasgow is all about, using his experiences to lead a stellar career across law and politics. He was a frequent visitor back to the Union and has been a great supporter to generations of Union alumni. Our thoughts go out to all of Ming's family and friends at this very sad time.

Sir Menzies led the Liberal Democrats from 2006 to 2007 and was the MP for North East Fife at Westminster for 28 years.

Hard to believe 10 years have passed since our dear friend passed away. Charles’ wise words that the “university gives you your degree, but the Union gives you your education” holds as true for the students of the GUU today as it did in the 1980’s. At FOGUU we’re very proud to support that in all its forms, from the Union hosting the European debating championships through to funding community meals for students amidst the cost of living crisis, helping keep the legacy of Charles and other alumni alive for the next generations at the Union. Our thoughts and love to his family and friends today.

Friends, very sad news from University Avenue. Stuart was a great friend to the Union and many will have fond memories of his humorous Grace's at many James Bridie dinners, alongside his personal service to many generations of students, from presiding over weddings to being a sage source of advice. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

We're deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Reverend Stuart MacQuarrie - our much loved former Chaplain (2001 - 2020), alumnus & friend. Genuine, compassionate, kind, funny & caring - Stuart's door was always open to anyone who needed him.

All our love to his family & friends.❤️

Friends, the infamous "End of term function" is just a month away, with Friday 15th December set to be another fantastic (and silly) evening.

For any alumni interested in supporting our old Union and having a brilliant night attending the vaunted James Bridie Memorial Dinner, you can buy a ticket at £110 per person.

As well as supporting the Union, this includes the early drinks reception and exhibition, full sit down meal from the excellent new catering facilities, drinks, and access to the Bridie VIP room for the evening, as well as all the musical acts and fun through the long night.

If you're interested in supporting the Union and having a great night with friends, email [email protected] to find out more and secure seats or tables!

FOGUU was delighted to support this recent initiative at the Union. We are proud to have a fund to support grants like this which enhance the student experience and help make the Union a home away from home for students today, like it was for us. If you are interested in donating to FOGUU to support activities like this, or in finding out more, don't hesitate to get in touch with us!

Free scran for the first 100 people next Thursday at 6:30PM!

It's first come first serve so make sure you're here early 😎!

Calling all Foggies in Scotland on Saturday 11th of February! Our old Union is hosting a life members dinner to connect with alumni new and old. The Board would love as many of you (and your friends!) as possible to come along and catch-up with pals new and old, with your dancing shoes in tow and the best beer bar wares on show.

Tickets are still on sale at the link below. It would be fantastic to see as many folks as possible come out to support the Board in putting this great evening together.

Fogies... another one of our own passes to that Great Beer Bar in the sky. I fondly remember him at various Union dinners telling stories of that infamous event and I still choose to believe that the original Stone of Scone is hidden behind the walls of our Reading Room.

Ian Hamilton was one of Scottish four nationalists who took the stone from Westminster Abbey in 1950.

Friends. Ronnie's family has been in touch asking us to share details of his funeral. It's on Thursday 8th September at 3.30pm at Dalnotter Crematorium (in Clydebank), and later at Clydebank and District Golf Club (Hardgate). If you're going then take your best Ronnie stories with you.

Chums, we have some rather sad and upsetting news. We have just heard that one of the Union's biggest characters, and indeed one of its longest serving and dearest friends, Ronnie McCracken, has passed away. It happened at around 3.30 this morning and we understand his family was with him to the end.

There is much to be said about Ronnie but other than to say he was a Board Member from the late 80s through to the mid nineties, now is not the time. Hopefully those of us who knew him will have an opportunity to get together and pay our respects (or disrespects as Ronnie would have wanted it). In the meantime... a time for reflection and memories we think.

Rest well dear friend.

Alumns, our dear old Union and 'the other place' (Queen Margaret Union) have teamed up in a way not seen in many many years - To ensure every student coming back to Glasgow in September, from those arriving in our dear city for the first time to the 1000's who missed out with the pandemic, get the Freshers' Week experience they all deserve.

If you have any kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours or friends off to Glasgow in September, make sure to send them to the official University of Glasgow Freshers' Week 2021 page with all the correct information, pasted below!

Alumns, 9 long months after being closed, beer bar finally reopened yesterday to provide once again for the denizens of Gilmorehill.

Pictured are some boardies in the newly refurbished beer garden, complete with planters. The only question we have at FOGUU HQ is what will soak the flowers more? The Scottish rain or unfinished pints!

Bookings are open over the summer and the union is very keen for trade from both current and former students after a very difficult period. What better way to reunite post pandemic than in our alma matter with free-flowing pints and memories! You can book a table via the link below.
