Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Welcome to the Official page of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department. It is by far the largest of its type in Scotland.

There are around 500 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate students in the department and around 100 academic, research, administrative and technical staff. It has the highest independently assessed standing in its discipline in Scotland for both teaching and research. The staff complement covers a wide range of expertise and this is reflected in the research profile and in the portfolio of specialist MEng courses.

Last chance to vote in the TEAs ‼️ voting closed tonight

Is there someone from MAE that you think deserves to be recognised? ✨

This year we would love to have the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering represented at Strathclyde Union’s Teaching Excellence Awards. This is a solely student-led award ceremony meaning it is students who nominate, shortlist, and pick the winners.

The nomination process should only take a few minutes to complete and will mean so much to all nominees. There are 7 categories in total however you do not have to nominate someone for every category. If you would like to confirm the name of anyone please just ask.

The nomination categories are below:

✨Have you experienced an outstanding teacher who consistently goes the extra mile to ensure their students’ success? (Above and Beyond)
✨Have you experienced a member of staff who honours a creative and imaginative educator who brings learning to life through fresh ideas or unconventional methods. (Innovative Teaching)
✨Is there someone who has taken your feedback on board to help improve one of your modules? (Student Voice Champion)
✨Is there a PhD teaching assistant/ tutor who has played a big role in supporting students learning in a particular module? (Teaching Assistant or Tutor)
✨Or a member of non-teaching support staff who you have noticed has played a huge role in supporting students this year? (Best Non Teaching/Support Staff)

Thank you in advance on behalf of everyone in the department.

Nominations are now open!

MODULE EVALUATIONS NOW OPEN!

It’s time to have your say and make a difference to your modules!

The department really value your feedback and would love to implement changes to improve the student experience! However, changes are easier to make if response rates are high!

So please take 5 minutes to complete these for your modules before 10.04.26

📣🌟MAE: MEET THE EMPLOYERS - FINAL EVENT OF THE YEAR🌟📣

Our next event of the academic year will take place NEXT WEDNESDAY the 18th of March 2026 in TL325. The event is open to students of all year groups from all engineering disciplines.

Lightning talks will begin at 2:30pm and will be followed by a networking session from 3.30pm. This will give all students who attend the opportunity to talk with companies specifically targeting Strathclyde Graduates and Interns. The aim of these events is to showcase the wide range of companies available for our students to consider for future employment whether that be as an intern, a graduate or even further into your career. These sessions give you the opportunity to listen to what the companies have to offer and the chance to speak to them one-to-one asking any questions you may have. 🌟

Following student requests given during the last event, this particular event will involve Boeing and Prestwick Aerosystems (former Spirit Aerosystems), ARUP, SSE Renewables, AAC Clyde Space and Airspection.
