WORTHY PRESIDENT’S REPORT | CORBY MURRAY CLUB ANNIVERSARY PARADE
On Friday, some members of Partick Murray Club including myself, travelled south to the East Midlands to take part in the Corby Murray Club Anniversary Celebrations. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality shown to us throughout the weekend was absolutely superb and greatly appreciated by all in attendance. Friday night’s social event at the Rugby Club provided an excellent start to the weekend and allowed everyone to enjoy a good evening of fellowship together.
On Saturday, proceedings began with the English Amalgamated Committee meeting held within the Ex-Servicemen’s Club before members assembled for the Anniversary Parade through the streets of Corby. A highlight of the day was the unfurling of a new bannerette for the Corby brethren by General Secretary Bro. David Hoey alongside Bro. Gordon McMorris, President of the Murray Parent Club. It was encouraging to witness the tremendous support shown by the many Clubs and visitors who travelled from all over England, Scotland and Ulster to take part in the occasion.
The parade itself was led by the outstanding Shankill Road Defenders Flute Band from Belfast, who were a credit throughout the day and added greatly to the atmosphere with their musical talents.
Following the parade, members and guests returned for the evening function where entertainment was provided by loyalist vocalist Lisa Williamson alongside the DJ, both of whom ensured the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
I would also like to place on record my sincere thanks to the ladies of Corby who looked after everyone so well throughout the weekend with food, tea and coffee both before and after the parade. Their kindness, hospitality and hard work certainly did not go unnoticed and played a major part in making the weekend such a success.
A special mention must also go to Bros. McKeown, White & Hamilton of Partick Murray Club who travelled down with me and conducted themselves impeccably throughout, doing the Club proud at all times. Hopefully next year we can encourage a few more members to make the journey down, as Corby Murray certainly deserve the support shown to them.
Overall, it was a tremendous weekend of fellowship and friendship and I would once again thank Corby Murray Club for the outstanding hospitality shown to us all throughout our visit.
