Partick Murray Club

Today, members of Partick Murray Club will be in attendance at the Annual Billy & Anne Moir Memorial Parade, hosted by Drumchapel UDU.

The late Bro. Billy Moir dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the Crimson Cause as a member of Partick Murray Club. At a time when the Club was struggling to attract new members, Billy played a crucial role in its recruitment. We are proud to say that, thanks in no small part to Billy’s relentless and uncompromising recruitment efforts, the Club remains on a firm footing today with more than 80 members.

Billy and his late wife, Anne, also dedicated their lives to the Loyalist Cause. Their contribution was such that they continue to be remembered and honoured today, not only in their native Glasgow, but also in Belfast, where a mural commemorating them stands on a gable wall in their beloved Lower Shankill.

We send our very best wishes to the Moir family and to everyone at Drumchapel UDU as they take to the streets of the Drum today in proud remembrance of Billy and Anne.

The band takes to the streets on saturday as part of our back to back parades in "the drum"

Parade musters at 15.45 at Dalsetter Avenue for a 4pm start

Both drumchapel parades were only added to the intinery a fortnight ago to help both organisations out, unfortunatly the parade this saturday coincides with the Vol Brian Robinson parade in belfast which alot of the band have already committed to attending, so our numbers may reflect that on the day, regardless , on Saturday we will be in Drumchapel celebrating the memory of two stalwarts of Loyalism in our part of the country - Anne And Billy Moir

Over the past number of days, we have seen a considerable number of posts from those who would broadly identify with, or come from, a Protestant background using the expression “RIP” when marking the death of an individual. So we feel it necessary to post this once again.

WHY PROTESTANTS SHOULD NOT USE “RIP”

The letters “RIP", meaning “'Requiescat in pace' or “Rest in Peace”, have long been used by the Roman Catholic Church, and can be frequently seen, for example, in death notices and on gravestones. However, the use of “RIP” has become much more widespread in recent years, and it is now often quoted by many Protestants on the social media sites Facebook and Twitter. While it is probably being used in all innocence and sincerity, it is a further illustration of spiritual confusion within Protestant circles.

In the Church of Rome, the term “Rest in Peace” is virtually a prayer for the dead, so that should alert us right away. A person’s eternal destiny is decided prior to death. If your faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, then at death, your soul will immediately pass into glory. However, if you have not trusted Christ but have rejected God’s offer of salvation, then, tragically, when you die your soul is lost in hell forever. This is what the Bible teaches, and there is no Biblical warrant for praying for the dead or for wishing that their soul might “Rest in Peace”. Indeed, such a view contradicts the Bible. The redeemed do not need our prayers, and the lost cannot benefit from them once they have passed from us. We would be better to pray more for them while they are alive. Let us reject and repudiate the superstitions of Rome and remain faithful to the clear teaching of the Word of God.

On the 28th July 1689, ‘The Mountjoy’ was launched that evening and broke the boom across the River Foyle to relieve Londonderry with supplies during the Siege of Derry. This ultimately resulted in the Siege of Derry ending on the 1st August 1689.

The ‘Relief of Derry’ will be commemorated locally this year by the Apprentice Boys Association across Northern Ireland on Saturday 9th August.

“At last, at last, with one broad side,
Kind heaven sent their aid,
The boom that crossed, The Foyle was broke
And James he was dismayed
The banner, boys, that floated
Was run aloft with joy,
God bless the hands that broke the boom,
And saved the Apprentice Boys!”
