📢 Exciting news from our Surrey alumni community! Becky Wills (PhD Creative Writing, 2025) has just released her debut novel, Stun: A Novel in Pieces! 🎉

The book takes readers to the fictional Chicago suburb of New Lawn, where a young woman’s journey through addiction, family dysfunction, and self-discovery unfolds in a poetic and fragmented narrative. With echoes of literary icons like Ocean Vuong and Anne Carson, Becky’s talent shines brightly in this masterpiece.

Tufan first got to know Surrey when his son came here to study Mechanical Engineering. A decade later, he’s sharing the lessons that have shaped his global career, from embracing “sideways steps” to thriving in an AI shaped future.

Tickets are just £2, with all proceeds supporting The Forever Surrey Fund – helping student clubs and societies at Surrey to grow, compete and thrive.

You don’t need to be taking part in GradSport to attend – the Cinema Night is open to all students, staff, alumni and the local community.

A BEng in Chemical Engineering, a transformative sandwich placement, late nights in Stag Hill Court and the support of the University of Surrey’s international community all helped shape the way he thinks, leads and innovates. Today, as Chief Innovation and Operations Officer at Duracell, he champions education, mentorship and ethical AI as forces for positive change.

One year ago, the University of Surrey welcomed its first medical students – a landmark moment for our community and for healthcare in the region.

Under the leadership of Surrey alumna Professor Juliet Wright, the School of Medicine is:

• Delivering innovative, research-led teaching from day one
• Helping address NHS workforce shortages by increasing medical school places
• Championing widening participation so that talented students from all backgrounds can pursue medicine

Many graduates tend to remain where they train, and we are proud to be growing a new “school of excellence” here in Surrey, with the first cohort set to graduate in 2028.
