After 30 years with EPNE, Jimmy Stobbart shares his journey from bricklayer to Construction Curriculum Manager - and how the support of his team and the backing of a fully funded Certificate in Education helped him get there.

Now in his role, he guides those in the trades take their first steps into teaching, supporting them to develop their skills. As Jimmy puts it: “I think the lads on site think you've got to be academic to be a teacher, but it's really not like that. You've just got to be willing to learn.”

Industry experts inspired the next generation of architects and designers at the launch of the Academy for Regional Design and Architecture. ✅

Students from Sunderland College and Hartlepool Sixth Form attended the event at the Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) where leading figures from architecture, construction and design shared their expertise, experience and offered advice on building a successful career in the industry.

The event also gave students the chance to network with employers, architects and university representatives, helping them gain valuable advice and make connections within the industry.
