Join Chloe, Maisie and Alice as they take you through a day in their lives during a busy yet exciting time for students ~ submission day! 🎓📸

We’re excited to welcome internationally renowned photographer Tim Flach () to the University of Suffolk () for a special public guest lecture!📸🦜

Join us as Tim discusses his career, creative process, and photographic practice in what promises to be an inspiring session for photographers, creatives, and students alike.

Tim Flach is a photographer known for his stylised animal portraits. He has dedicated his career to documenting biodiversity and conveying empathy for our planet’s endangered creatures. Driven by a desire to share stories of the natural world, he has been collaborating with scientists to research how imagery can better lead to pro-environmental outcomes. Flach has six main bodies of work which have been exhibited worldwide, including shows at Museums of Natural History, from Paris to Beijing. He has six international award-winning books translated into multiple languages. His latest publication, Feline, was released in Fall 2025. Tim has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the Arts London (Norwich) and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He is also a Senior Research Fellow (Artist in Residence) at the Centre for Eudaimonia and Human Flourishing at Linacre College, University of Oxford.

A look back before the break…📸

Our Year 1 Photography students stepped into the world of Capture One for the first time gaining hands on experience with industry standard editing software.
Alongside this, they developed their understanding of studio health and safety, explored different lighting set-ups, and were introduced to camera tethering capturing images directly into the software for a more efficient workflow. A strong foundation for professional practice🔥

Students from all photography years stepped into the studio today for a hands on workshop led by ( ), working with industry equipment, developing new skills, and putting them into practice behind the lens. It was a day filled with learning and creativity🙌

Behind the scenes in the studio 📸

One of our first year photography students at has been exploring Tendring District for her Location Project, responding to place through garments she has designed and constructed herself.

She said:�“This project allowed me to translate landscape and atmosphere into wearable forms.”

Using the university’s professional studio facilities making full use of the professional lighting, adjustable backdrops, controlled studio environment
and all professional equipment needed to refine her final outcomes.

Students are already back in the darkrooms developing their films. Medium format and 35mm. Fully kitted out darkrooms with everything needed to be self sufficient analogue photographers. Along with a packed equipment loan store the students can let their creativity run wild!

Anastasia will be joining us on our Ipswich campus on Thursday October 10th from 1pm to 2pm for an in person talk about career and practice. This talk is open to everyone, and we encourage all our current friends, supporters and illustrious alumni to attend.
