The Impact of Attending Boarding School
A workshop with Caroline Hawkey Barnes PTSTA (P)

What happens to a child sent away from home? And what stays with them long into adulthood?

This online workshop explores the lasting impact of boarding school on our clients. The adaptations they made to survive. The shame that can sit beneath a sense of abandonment.

Together we’ll examine our own frame of reference and the biases we might bring to this work. Drawing on the writing of Nick Duffell and Joy Schaverien, we’ll view their ideas through a TA lens.

This is an exploratory, curious space. One that holds an OK/OK position and makes room for everyone to express themselves and their needs. Caroline brings a creative, visual style and a belief that learning should be something we enjoy.

📅 Wednesday 24th June, 7:00–8:30pm (UK time)
💻 Online via Zoom
🎟 Cost by donation

All donations go to The Berne Institute Student Bursary, supporting trainees with their training fees.

Professional Excellence Workshop (PEW)

If you’re training in Transactional Analysis or already practising, this is where your work deepens.

Three days of advanced training, supervision, and real clinical exploration.

Not just theory, but practice. Not just learning, but refinement.

You’ll bring your work into the room, engage in multi-level supervision, explore theory and ethics, and test yourself through practice exams and teaching.

It’s a space to sharpen your thinking, strengthen your clinical presence, and work at the level you’re aiming for.

But more than that, it’s a place to think alongside others. To be challenged, supported, and stretched in a group that understands the work.

For CTA trainees and qualified TA professionals.
24 hours of advanced training and supervision across three days.

Places are limited and subject to application and interview.

Apply now via the Apply Now button on The Berne website, link in bio. Or email [email protected] for more information.

Introduction to Redecision Therapy with Vann Joines, PhD, TSTA (P)

This is a rare opportunity to train directly with Vann Joines, PhD, TSTA (P), one of the most influential figures in Transactional Analysis and a central voice in the development of Redecision Therapy.

Over two immersive days, you will be introduced to a powerful, experiential approach to change that works with both cognition and the emotional brain, helping clients move beyond insight into lasting transformation.

Redecision Therapy brings together the clarity of Transactional Analysis with the depth and immediacy of Gestalt work. It is practical, dynamic, and designed to support real change in real therapeutic relationships.

This workshop does not stay at theory level. Vann Joines will teach the core principles, demonstrate the approach live, and guide participants through practice so the learning lands in the body, not just the mind.

Across the weekend, participants will learn how to contract effectively, work from an I’m OK, You’re OK position, identify early decisions and rackets, facilitate redecisions, and anchor change so it endures.

This is training that strengthens clinical confidence, deepens presence, and expands your therapeutic range, whether you are early in your TA journey or looking to refresh and refine your practice.

The course runs online on 1–2 May 2026, making it accessible internationally, with timings designed to accommodate global participants.

A completed TA101 is required. Places are limited to preserve depth, safety, and quality of learning, and demand is expected to be high.

The course takes place over two days online and costs £450. To book your place or request further details, contact [email protected].

This is one of those trainings people talk about years later.

We are shocked and very sad to inform you that our psychiatrist friend and teacher Mike Harris suddenly died of a heart attack.

He was a remarkable, generous, bright, committed, good man who dedicated his life to helping so many distressed people live a better life, “He saved my life, my sanity, my marriage, and my children. He was embedded in every aspect of my life” said one of his former patients. He formed and led two charities, “Improving Lives” and “JCare”, and was enormously loved and respected.

Such a great loss. We honour him, and our students will remember his brilliant teaching and good soul.
