Β£1,000 of painting & decorating goodies? Yes please! πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Last week, our Painting & Decorating tutor, Matthew Bibby, welcomed a special visitor, award-winning painter, decorator and content creator Kevin Brown, better known online as The Prestige Painter, who came to deliver Matthew’s Β£1,000 Ciret competition prize.

The haul included goodies from across Ciret’s range, including ROTA! paint rollers and accessories, Kana paint brushes and accessories, masq masking solutions, prep preparation products and Beeline wallpaper adhesives and fillers.

Matthew entered the competition while visiting The National Painting & Decorating Show at the NEC Birmingham with learners earlier this year and was later contacted with the brilliant news that he’d won!

And he’s sharing the win too. Matthew is kindly donating some of his prize to learners at our Construction Centre on Nursery Grove in Hull, giving them even more kit to use as they develop their skills.

Congratulations, Matthew, and a huge thank you for sharing your prize with our learners. Thanks also to Kevin, Ciret and everyone involved! πŸ‘

πŸ“£ Meet Our Learners: Karolina's English Learning Journey

Meet Karolina Ciarkowska, one of the newest learners in our ESOL English Conversation Class.

"Hi πŸ‘‹ I'm Karolina and I'm from Zabrze, a town in the south of Poland that is famous for its coal-mining history and football.

I've lived in the UK for 11 years and recently joined the English Conversation Class to help improve my English skills.

I enjoy coming to class because it gives me the opportunity to practise speaking English and build my confidence. The classes are welcoming and supportive, and I enjoy learning alongside other people who are also working to improve their English.

My goal is to continue developing my English skills and achieve my Functional Skills qualification. In the future, I would love to return to Poland, but first I want to improve my English and gain qualifications that will help me achieve my goals."

For Karolina, learning English is about more than improving her language skills. It's about building confidence, creating new opportunities and preparing for the future.

Since joining the conversation class, Karolina has approached every session with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. She is committed to improving her communication skills and is taking important steps towards achieving her personal and professional ambitions.

Learning a new language takes time and determination, but Karolina's willingness to learn and practise is already helping her make great progress. She is excited about continuing her learning journey and working towards her Functional Skills qualification.

Well done, Karolina. πŸ‘

Our ESOL courses help learners build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing English for everyday life, work and further learning.

πŸ’¬ Real Stories, Real Careers

Meet Robbie Fairburn, a Joinery Apprentice with Intertech, who is building valuable skills, experience and confidence through his apprenticeship journey.

"I used to work with my uncle, who was a joiner, even while I was still at school. I really enjoyed the trade and knew it was something I wanted to do."

After leaving school, Robbie chose the apprenticeship route and hasn't looked back.

"It's a big jump at first compared to staying on at college, but you get out what you put in. I've been earning since I left school and it's given me the chance to gain experience while learning on the job."

Robbie works on a variety of joinery projects, including fitting kitchens, hanging doors and modular installations, developing practical skills that are preparing him for a successful future in the construction industry.

With the support of his employer, Robbie has continued to develop his skills and is progressing to a Level 3 qualification.

"My employer has been really supportive and encouraged me to carry on to Level 3. It's a great qualification to have under your belt and will help me progress even further in my career."

The support he receives in the workplace has played a key role in his success.

"They're a great employer and they actively encourage learning and development. I like being trusted to get the job done and being given responsibility. It helps build your confidence and skills."

Through his apprenticeship, Robbie is gaining industry experience, recognised qualifications and the skills needed for a long-term career in construction.
