***Conference Speaker Announcement ***
We are delighted to announce our final speaker Caroline Scuffum, BSc, IBCLC.

Caroline studied Midwifery at The university of Hull, completing in 2007. With over 20 years experience within the lactation and maternity field.

Currently project manage the Goodwin Volunteer Doula Project, Breastfeeding Peer Supporters and The Baby Feeding Practitioners.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Jenna Brough as a guest speaker at our conference on the 30th April 2024.
Dr Jenna Brough is a HCPC registered Perinatal Clinical Psychologist with 14 years experience in therapeutic support for emotional and psychological wellbeing. Jenna has worked therapeutically across NHS, private and third sector organisations and as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology. Jenna currently acts as field supervisor for doctoral research relevant to emotional wellbeing in the perinatal period. In 2020 Jenna completed the RCM accredited KGHypnobirthing teacher training.

"I believe strongly that many mental health difficulties could be prevented and the perinatal period a more contented experience for a lot of people with better support from services and our communities. I support this preventative focus through teaching, training, activism, social media content - .jenna.psychologist podcast appearances, and my own podcast - The Perinatal Podcast: Growing Through".

We are delighted to welcome Jenna Little from
After gaining a degree in social work in 2010 Jenna hs worked at Cornerhouse as a front line Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) worker since 2011. In this time she has supported 100s of young people tell their story. She is also a regular trainer for CSE and recently joined a framework of trainers for trauma informed practice focusing on the ABC model.

***SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT***
We are honoured to welcome Sheena Byrom to our conference who will be speaking about "Sustaining Midwifery Joy" ❤️

Sheena Byrom is a practising midwife of 40 years, having worked in the NHS for most of that time. Sheena was one of the UK’s first consultant midwives, and as head of midwifery successfully helped to lead the development of three birth centres in East Lancashire. As well as being an international speaker, Sheena provides workshops and consultancy services on respectful maternity care. With her midwife daughter Anna is the proud joint owner of The Practising Midwife journal, and an exciting learning online platform All4Maternity.com

Sheena’s midwifery memoirs, Catching Babies, is a Sunday Times bestseller, and her seminal book, The Roar Behind the Silence: why kindness, compassion and respect matter in maternity care jointly edited with Soo Downe, is being used as a resource to improve maternity care throughout the world. In 2019 Sheena and Soo edited their second book, ‘Squaring the Circle: researching normal childbirth in a technological world’.

Sheena was awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to midwifery and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives in 2015. In 2016 and 2018, Sheena received Honorary Doctorates from Bournemouth University and the University of Central Lancashire, and in 2017 she was made a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University.
Sheena is committed to the humanisation of childbirth, to maximising normal physiological birth processes, and for all women to experience a positive birth.

We are looking for 1st and 2nd years to be society representatives and join our existing society leaders. The role includes engaging your cohort into activities, feedback ideas, planning events, and having an opportunity to take over the society itself as leaders in the summer period once the current 3rd years move onto their careers. This will also be great experience to include in job applications and discussing your additional skills at midwifery interviews. If you are interested please direct message on here or Instagram.

Conference Speaker Announcement: We are honoured to welcome to our conference Anna Kent, who has helped women birth babies in war zones, earthquakes and refugee camps. At 26 years old, working for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) but not yet a fully trained midwife, she assisted a birth in a Sudanese tropical storm by the light of a headtorch. Later, she would be responsible for the female health of 30,000 stateless Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. But returning to the UK to work for the NHS, she soon learned that even at home, access to a safe birth was impossible to take for granted. Anna went on to write the critically acclaimed Frontline Midwife; finding hope in life death and birth, illuminating the lives of women that are irreparably affected by compromised access to healthcare. She now works as an NHS nurse and midwife in Dorset, specialising in women and birthing people who are teenagers or have complex safeguarding. ‼️We are looking for a couple of 1st and 2nd year student midwife representatives to join the existing midwifery society leaders. ‼️

Your role will include; engaging your cohort into activities, feedback of ideas, planning of events and having opportunity to take over the society in the summer period.

This first meet is really helpful due to the stressful environment we work in and will continue to work in as our careers develop as midwives👩🏼‍🍼. As well as providing tips for individuals both commencing their midwifery degree and qualifying as a midwives when interviewers ask about what you would do during or after a stressful shift.
