Building Skills, On and Off-Site 🛠️
​It’s been a high-energy week for our apprentices as they sharpen their crafts and prepare for the realities of the industry.
​🪚 In the Workshop: Joinery Precision
​Our Joinery Apprentices have been deep in the details, working on full kitchen installs and bespoke understairs cupboards. These projects are the ultimate test of accuracy—navigating awkward angles, mastering cabinetry alignment, and ensuring every millimeter counts. There’s no better place to fail, learn, and perfect those cuts than in the workshop!
​🧱 Out on Site: Plastering in Action
​Meanwhile, our Plastering Apprentices took their skills to the real world. They received on-site visits from their Occupational Development Coach (ODC) to review their progress in a live environment. Transitioning from the training booth to a live site is where the real growth happens—adapting to different surfaces, managing time, and meeting professional standards under the watchful eye of an expert.
​Why this matters:
Balancing technical workshop practice with professional on-site coaching ensures our apprentices aren't just "qualified"—they are site-ready.

"What an inspiring few days in the workshop with our pre-apprenticeship group! So proud to announce that half of the cohort have successfully passed their CSCS tests already, with the remaining half prepped and ready to go!
​The speed at which they're developing skills and producing quality work is genuinely impressive and speaks volumes about their drive and the robust processes we have in place. It's moments like these that truly bring our mission statement to life: 'Ensuring all young people have the tools and opportunities they need to fulfil their potential, Regardless of background or life circumstances.'

Today was a strange day at OTE head office, firstly an Angel appeared singing her head off all around the building.
Then when the Business development team turned up we found out the naughty little elf had been up to his old tricks, picking on the grinches desk he must have known she would not wear a xmas jumper!

Brick by Brick, Helping Our Furry Friends!
​Another fantastic community effort for Oakwood Dog Rescue! 🐾
​Our friends at Oakwood needed a doorway bricked up before handing their unit back, and we were happy to help! A huge thank you to Jewsons on Sutton Fields for their incredible generosity in donating all the necessary 140mm blocks and cement—your support is invaluable!
​And the stars of the show? Our fantastic Bricklaying Apprentices, Alfie Ebot Enombi and Amelia Kokosa, who volunteered their time yesterday to get the job done quickly and perfectly!
​Job completed, unit secured, and a bonus reward of dog cuddles for the team! ❤️

Incredible skill on display from our future construction professionals! We often don't give enough praise to the quality coming out of our Post-16 Provision.
​The brickwork produced by our 14 and 15-year-old students is consistently outstanding and truly speaks to the level of dedication they have for their craft.
​A massive shout-out and congratulations to our Occupational Development Coaches, Steve Dobson and Adam Simpson. Your guidance, expertise, and commitment are instrumental in developing this exceptional talent.
​Take a bow! We are so proud of the standards being set.

What a busy and productive few weeks for our Pre-Apprenticeship group at OTE Construction Training! 🤩
​We're excited to announce that the majority of our students are now ready to sit their CSCS test—a huge milestone toward becoming site-ready.
​Our bricklayers have been laying to a line and learning about essential techniques like soldier bands for weathering.
​The plasterers are impressing everyone, moving onto skimming plasterboard and delivering a professional finish—smooth and line-free!
​Our joiners built a great radiator cover and are rigorously practicing hand sawing straight and square.
​Plus, a hidden artist in the group has emerged, helping to transform the old office into a new canteen and painting our company logo on the newly plastered walls!
​This group has demonstrated skill, dedication, and teamwork. They are ready to apply their training on a real site.

You HAVE to see the transformation one of our amazing team members pulled off!

Wayne Proctor, our Bricklaying Occupational Development Coach. He was so determined for our students to have a proper computer suite, he decided to build it himself—out of upcycled materials!

He swapped a tired old cabin classroom for a fresh, bright computer room by:
♻️ Giving old doors and worktops a complete makeover for desks.
🛋️ Sourcing fantastic second-hand chairs on a limited budget.

The result is a stunning, functional learning space! It just goes to show what you can achieve with hard work, determination, and a little recycling magic.

Massive congratulations and thank you to Wayne Proctor for his incredible effort! Well done, Wayne! 👏

Huge shoutout to our incredible partners at Refina for their unwavering support of the next generation of construction professionals!
​On Tuesday, our Plastering Occupational Development Coach, Mike Beecher, flagged that we were running low on essential tools for our pre-apprenticeship students at the Newcleveland Street Centre.
​A quick email later, and Brenn Stafford didn't hesitate. This morning, we received a fantastic delivery of new plastering trowels and mixing tubs!
​This invaluable support ensures our students have the high-quality equipment they need for their training. Thank you, Brenn and Refina, for being such a vital part of the OTE Construction Training mission!
