Want to make memories you’ll never forget? Hull is the place for you. 🫶
After coming to the UK to study at the Uni of Hull in 2012, Md.Saquib's university journey was nothing short of an adventure - an unforgettable one that started before he even got to Hull.
He said: “I flew into Manchester from Dhaka, but the real challenge wasn’t the long flight—it was understanding the British accent. Everyone kept saying “Piccadilly,” but to me it sounded like a puzzle. Instead of catching the right train, I ended up going back and forth between Manchester Airport and the city twice! It felt silly at the time, but eventually I pieced it together, made it to Piccadilly, and finally caught the train to Hull.
“When I arrived, it was raining—the classic British welcome. At the university reception, I was told my mother had been calling to check if I’d arrived safely (mothers never change!). After collecting my room keys and essentials, I found out my student house number was 13—the same as my home back in Dhaka. That felt like fate.
“My flatmates were truly international: one from China, two from France, one from Nigeria, and me, a Bangladeshi. Exactly the diverse environment I’d hoped for. We quickly bonded, became close friends, and built memories that still make me nostalgic. The academic year was short, but it was filled with laughter, late-night talks, and friendships that have lasted beyond Hull.
“Looking back, I understand why Hull is called the friendliest university. For me, it was not just a place to study, but a place where strangers became lifelong friends and where even getting lost turned into a story worth telling.”
