Call for Participants!

The artist Jez Riley French has been commissioned to create a sound walk in Whitefriargate. To do this, it would be great if LGBTQ+ students of Hull could talk about their experiences of the area or memories to do with the area as an opportunity for newer perspectives to be involved in the creation of the sound walk.

The main starting point of the project aims to look at the thoughts and ideas around Community in the city, how they have evolved from the late 70s to now, and how those changes may have impacted how people form a sense of place.

Any participants that are interested could get in contact with Jez Riley French via social media or through email ([email protected] ). They would only need to be willing to talk with Jez about their perspectives on the city and none of the things said would be used on the sound walk without express permission.

For more information about Jez Riley French, you can visit his website at https://jezrileyfrench.co.uk/

Happy Trans day of visibility everyone! The trans rep and I made a few points on how trans allies can be better allies for trans people!

Transcript of the image text:
Listen to trans people: Trans people have voices and opinions of their own experiences that cis people simply won't. Listen to trans folk if they tell you something about their experiences or how something is harmful. Don't talk over them, trans people get talked over enough.
Encourage the use of pronouns: This could include asking people to state their pronouns in a meeting or including pronouns in a bio or emails. Or even correcting others if someone uses the wrong pronouns
Respect closeted trans folks: This could include using a different name or pronouns for them in certain situations where it is unsafe for them to come out or not pressuring them to use their pronouns in some settings
Respect other's gender identity and state of transitioning. Trans people dont have to earn their pronouns. A trans man shouldnt have to look like what you think a man should look like to be referred to as a man. Non-binary people dont have to be androgynous.
No, cis isn't a slur: Everytime someone compares it to a slur, they erase the suffering and oppression trans people have suffered in the past and still deal with now. Don't become one of the people who compare cis to the countless slurs trans people have had thrown at them.
Trans men are men, trans women are women, nonbinary people are nonbinary.

Hi all, recently I have been contacted about an art project celebrating q***r heroes called “Q***r Heroes 42”. The idea is to get 42 participants to design a fabric badge for a q***r person they look up to based on an iconic superhero outline.

Your q***r hero could be anyone, a famous q***r figure or a q***r teacher, friend, neighbour, anyone q***r who you look up to then design a badge based on them using an outline from, for example, the superman logo or another superhero.

This project has been commissioned by the University of Hull for LGBTQIA+ history month and is a collaboration between Industry Drama Fellow Hester Chillingworth and Ruth Hill, who is also part of the drama department staff here at the University of Hull.

Here is a link to the website if anyone is interested. Here you will find out more about the project and be directed on how to express interest in taking part:

LGBT+ history month is coming up soon and part of the ways we want to celebrate it is to collect stories, messages or statements from different LGBT+ students (or staff) to show on social media to spread LGBT+ voices around the university on experiences throughout their lives that they have had solely due to their sexuality or gender. These can either be positive or negative and can be about almost anything! These submissions will be accepted from now on and will be posted throughout the month of February.

The idea is to be able to show a diverse amount of voices talking about their lives as a part of the LGBT+ community. I want to accept as many different stories as possible however some limitations apply such as:

-No NSFW submissions
-Any submissions mentioning specific names or initials will be censored or removed
-Any submissions that could be harmful or threaten harm to other people are not allowed
-Include trigger warnings if your submission includes triggering content.

All submissions will be anonymous and any submissions deemed to break the rules above will be discarded.

Feel free to submit your post here: https://forms.gle/ZHARoPrrNvd1NK4i8
