Posted • Yesterday we welcomed BBC Question Time to campus! Here you can see presenter Fiona Bruce and the panel as they begin the show in front of a live audience in our building.

The panel includes honorary graduate and former Siemens UK Chief Executive Juergen Maier, climate minister Graham Stuart MP, shadow Commons leader Lucy Powell MP, Drew Hendry MP, and columnist Jill Kirby.

The UK economy, student cost of living, green jobs, and Israel and Palestine were among the topics raised in a lively and impassioned debate.

A big thank you to everyone who participated, including the live audience, and the people here at Lancaster who worked together to make it happen.

‘What does digital design look like at Jaguar Land Rover?’ by Tom Bolton and Selin Karan

Are you interested in learning how digital design is done at one of the most iconic car brands in the world? If so, you won’t want to miss the next seminar event in The Engaging Design series, where we invite external, industry speakers to share their insights and experiences with us.

ImaginationLancaster and Design Society are thrilled to host Tom Bolton and Selin Karan from the UX Department of Jaguar Land Rover, who will deliver a talk titled ‘What does digital design look like at Jaguar Land Rover?’

The session will take place at the Imagination Lab (LICA A36), on 16th February 2024, 13:00 - 14:00. This is a great opportunity to learn from two talented UX designers who work on mobile apps for JLR, and to ask them any questions you might have.

You can find the bios of Tom and Selin below.

Tom Bolton bio:
Hey! I’m the UX Lead for mobile apps for JLR. I started in Marketing & Advertising before switching careers to UX. I have been in UX/UI for almost 10 years, working agency and client-side for a lot of amazing brands, and in a lot of different industries. I have been at JLR for 2.5 years, and before that, I was at MoneySuperMarket.

Selin Karan bio:
Hello, I am UX designer who graduated from the product design department. I started my career at Huawei 4 years ago. I have been working for JLR since 2022, working on the mobile app side.

Dr Andrea Canclini and Professor Richard Brook from the School of Architecture have convened a symposium titled ‘END: Architecture and Philosophy Face to Face’ on Friday, 9 February, in collaboration with the bi-annual periodical Khorein.

Khorein is a journal that strives to deepen the dialogue between architecture and philosophy, even erase or transcend the boundary between the two disciplines.

The symposium is on the occasion of the launch of its latest issue; we will have as guests in person its editors-in-chief Petar Bojanic and Snezana Vesnic, and online the guest director of the next issue, Peter Eisenman.

The journal has already been presented as part of a talk at Harvard GSD in November and will be presented at the TU Berlin on 26 January and at the AA in London with Kenneth Frampton on 12 February, followed by Milan, Venice and Paris. We are pleased to welcome Petar and Snezana to Lancaster.

The day will be structured into two sessions, chaired by Richard and Deyan Sudjic. In the morning, we will have contributions from Peg Rawes, Director of Research at Bartlett, London architect Charlotte Skene Catling and Joseph Bedford, critic and historian at Virginia Tech. In the afternoon, we will continue with an introductory talk by Andrea, and Petar and Snezana will introduce Peter Eisenman, who will join us free from his New York office; Stelios Giamarelos, historian of modern architecture at the Bartlett, will be our discussant.

The in-person event has a limited capacity of 77.

Saturday 23rd March 2024 10.30am-4.30pm

A day symposium including photo walk and pop up exhibition - investigating the modernist legacy of the Lancaster University Campus.

2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the award of the royal charter to Lancaster University. This symposium investigates the modernist spatial legacy of the architects and landscape architects, Bridgwater Shepheard and Epstein.

The symposium takes a creative and engaged perspective on the original campus and the changes it has experienced in the last six decades.

A series of artworks, responsive to the campus, and short, scholarly views on its architecture and landscape will be mixed with a photo walk and a private view of a pop-up exhibition of some of Lancaster Arts’ mid-century works in the permanent collection (curated by Natalie Bradbury, Miranda Stearn and Adam Robinson).

FREE! Limited to 50 places. £5 returnable deposit guarantees your place. Refreshments provided.
