Last night, Lancaster MBA students and alumni came together for a fantastic networking event at the Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, London.

We were delighted to welcome Lancaster alumna Jane Callingham, Director of Brand and Brand Marketing at the BBC, who shared her inspiring career journey and insights into brand strategy, leadership and the power of ambition.

One of the themes that resonated throughout the evening was the lasting impact of the Lancaster experience. Jane spoke about how much she gained from her time at Lancaster and reflected on the unique culture that makes the University feel like a genuine community.

It was wonderful to see current MBA students and alumni reconnecting, sharing experiences and building new relationships. Jane captured the spirit of the evening perfectly when she said: "Whenever I'm with a group of people with a Lancaster connection, it feels like home."

Jane also spoke about the value of personal connection, and the evening was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Lancaster MBA network. Bringing together professionals from different industries and stages of their careers creates opportunities to learn from one another, exchange perspectives and build relationships that continue long after graduation.

Thank you again to Jane and to everyone who joined us for such an engaging and memorable evening. Events like these demonstrate the strength of the Lancaster MBA community and the connections that make it so special.

Unlock the potential of your professional experience with a Master’s degree through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

We’re delighted to welcome our first student from the built environment sector, Bryony Matthews, onto the Leadership Practice programme via this pathway, recognising her prior experiential learning at Level 7. Here’s how Bryony described her experience:

“I didn’t know Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) was possible and that my years of professional practice could be formally recognised and accredited towards a postgraduate qualification.

"What I found was a well-supported experience with guidance at every stage. My admissions coach answered every question I had and was a delight to work with.

"Building the portfolio required me to examine my practice with precision and from a new vantage point. The professional discussion that followed wasn’t simply an assessment…it felt like the beginning of an intellectual engagement, the point at which I really started to see how my work could connect with, and contribute to, the course ahead.

"My experience earned me a place on a master’s, and it didn’t just count, it counted towards my degree.”

APEL is about:

- Turning your experience into recognised academic credit
- Opening routes into postgraduate study
- Creating value from day one

For professionals who have gained their knowledge through real-world practice rather than traditional classroom settings, this can be a significant opportunity.

Yesterday we welcomed students from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Winstanley College, Pendleton Sixth Form College, Salford City College Group, and Lancaster Royal Grammar School to step into the role of a marketing professional as they took part in our Marketing Minds industry challenge.

After a taster lecture from our Department of Marketing and a tour of campus, students took part in a team challenge, where they worked on a marketing brief, exploring how brands respond to changing consumer behaviour, digital innovation and competitive pressures. The teams then worked on their pitches and presented their ideas to an academic marketing panel, who were impressed by the students' creativity and professionalism.

Congratulations to our three heat winners:
Mickey Mouse Marketeers and Disney Dandelion from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, and Save Disney from Lancaster Royal Grammar School.
