Fancy a break from lectures and exam prep? 👨‍🏫
Need a rest from proposal writing or experiments? 🔭

Take some time to de-stress and focus on your well-being with craft activities. Try your hand at origami, colouring or learn how to crochet.
You could even bring your own favourite craft and show others!

We look forward to seeing you there!😊

The Ashton Memorial was transformed into a buzzing hub of discovery for our latest Science Community Day. With a fantastic turnout and high energy from start to finish, this event bridged the gap between complex physics and everyday sustainable technology.

Over 420 visitors explored activities on the ground floor, and over 230 visited our planetarium experience.
Many of these activities focused on the the life cycle of renewable energy, helping children to understand the influence of science on a greener future 🌱.

Thank you to all our staff and students who volunteered on the day to bring the wonders of science to the Lancaster community!

Our very own Gizem Acar Tekin was recently awarded one of five “Ones to Watch” awards as a part of the “Most Inspiring Women in Cyber” awards ceremony, hosted in London 🏆

The awards – which are run jointly by companies IT Security Guru and Eskenzi PR – have been running since 2020, and were instigated to celebrate the contributions of women across the cybersecurity sector, both those with long established careers and those newer to the field. The “One to Watch” category recognises rising leaders whose work is expected to have significant impact on the future of cybersecurity.
Gizem was nominated for the award due to her innovative work on semiconductor device technology for quantum-secure communications, which has directly led to the incorporation of the Lancaster spinout Photarix, with Gizem as CEO.

A massive congratulations on behalf of Lancaster University Physics Department!

Huge congratulations to Professor Edward Laird and our departmental contributors. Their international team has been awarded major funding of £1.5 million to develop quantum computers in collaboration with Japan! 🎉🎉

The funding has been provided to help them develop quantum-dot technologies, and is jointly led by Dr Masaya Kataoka of the National Physical Laboratory in the UK and Professor Tetsuo Kodera of the Institute of Science in Tokyo.

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕

During the final 22 orbits of NASA’s ‘Cassini” mission, the spacecraft flew over Saturn’s near-permanent aurora, tracing a romantic, and definitely very intentional, heart-shaped path.

There are potentially more budget-friendly ways to tell someone you love them though! 💖
