Good morning soon-to-be mums,
We have an online prenatal study that you can take part in from home exploring how we begin to form ideas about our baby’s personality before they’re born.
Did you know that babies show their own individual patterns of movement before birth, much like they show differences in activity levels after they’re born?
Many of us also describe our unborn babies as “cheeky”, “calm”, or “shy”. In this study, we’re interested in how these expectations are shaped by factors such as movement in the womb, prenatal bonding, the baby’s s*x (if known), family history of neurodiversity, and recent emotional experiences.
Our PhD student, Betül, would also like to thank the 55 families who have already taken part. With just a few weeks left before final analysis and write-up, we are now inviting a final group of participants if you are able to take part before mid-April.
Taking part involves a simple 30-minute activity at home, where you record your baby’s movements using an “active/stop” button, along with a short questionnaire. You’ll also have the chance to receive a gift or be entered into a prize draw.

As we come to the end of data collection, we’re really looking forward to sharing what we’ve found - we’ll be posting updates and results here over the coming months.
Thank you for your time and support.
Attention Soon to be Mums!
We have a prenatal study where you have a chance to win a prize or receive a gift.
We often assign our unborn babies personality characteristics, such as “cheeky” or “shy”. In this study we are investigating how mums’ predictions about their unborn babies’ temperaments are influenced by movement in the womb, the current prenatal bond felt between baby and mum, the biological s*x of the baby (if known), family history of neurodiversity, and recent experiences with a range of emotions.
In the study we will ask you to record your baby’s activity using an “active/ stop” button at home. This will take approximately 30 minutes. We will also ask you to fill out a questionnaire about your baby’s expected temperament once they’re born.
