Tilly is the Bristol Cats September 'Cat of the Month' 🎉

Her owners shared with us: "Tilly and her brother Ringo were born on 29 July 2010 as part of a litter of four kittens and came to live with the King family in October 2010. They joined the Cats Study shortly afterwards and we have completed the questionnaires annually. Tilly is unusual in being a female ginger cat, albeit with a 'smokey' coat.

She has always been a vocal and sociable cat who likes to join the family in all activities. Strangely that sociability did not extend to her brother - they barely tolerated each other, giving a wide 'berth' when eating alongside each other, and hissing when they passed each other on the stairs.

Sadly Ringo was killed by a car on a nearby road in January 2025 and since then Tilly has been our only cat. Soon afterwards, we noticed that she was becoming even more vocal, losing weight and her coat was becoming very 'clumpy'. Our vet diagnosed hyperthyroidism in September 2025 and she started taking Thyronorm which is definitely helping - she has regained some weight and seems more settled.

Tilly has recently celebrated her 16th birthday and now spends most of the day on different favourite chairs with brief periods exploring the local area. She often joins us in the garden to 'supervise' what we are doing and on the sofa during the evenings to watch TV. She regards our neighbours' gardens and homes as part of her territory - she has been found on more than one occasion asleep on various neighbours' beds!

We hope that now her hyperthyroidism is under control, she will have many more years ahead."

It's International Cat Day! 🐈🐾

Today is about celebrating the cats who share our lives and to think about the welfare of cats everywhere.

We are celebrating by sharing photos of Fifi and Crazy Horse, two beautiful cats who are both part of the Bristol Cats study. Thank you to all BCS owners for helping us learn more about cats and how we can improve their health and welfare 😻

Mo is the Bristol Cats August 'Cat of the Month' 🎉

Mo owner's 10 year old daughter shared some words with us about how special she is 😻

"Mo is 15 years old, but is still very friendly, cuddly and chatty! She is a tabby, and has lots of interesting markings like spots and stripes. She loves Dreamies of all flavours and whenever we open a can, she comes running as she always thinks it's tuna for her! In the summer, she loves being outside and will meow at the garden door if she wants to go out to lie down in the shade. She is a very small cat, and a nickname we have for her is Mo Pequena (which means Little Mo in Portuguese.) She had a lovely brother called Hampi who she loved being with until he passed away 5 years ago; he was a bit fat and very daft and it definitely always seemed like Mo was in charge. She loves cuddling but especially likes belly rubs where she will roll over and let us stroke her tummy! She also really loves people and will chat to them lots, even making sounds that we sometimes think sound like real words. We all really love her and are happy that she is a furry part of our family!"

Today is National Kitten Day! So it's our annual throwback to when our cats Fergal, Freya, Luna and Holly were babies 😻

Today is Pet Remembrance Day ♥

Pet Remembrance Day provides an opportunity to celebrate all of the cats we’ve loved during our lives, and our unique bonds with them. We'd love to hear about the cats you'll never forget. If you'd like, share a photo or tell us about a favourite memory in the comments.

Also, if you'd like to honour a much-loved cat today, Cats Protection has created a Cat Memory Wall where you can share a photo or a special memory with others who understand.

Every year on 5 July, we celebrate Pet Remembrance Day to remember the amazing cats that have had impact on our lives and support cat owners through pet grief.
