Leeds Trinity University has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Contribution to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion category at this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Awards, the “Oscars” of higher education 🙌

The University was recognised for its sector-leading work in reducing the awarding gap between white and Global Majority students on campus, from 13.1% in 2023 to 2.3% in 2025, compared to a sector average of 11.4%.

This was achieved through a wide range of interventions, including anti-racist training toolkits and student wellbeing programmes, grounded in lived experience and designed to confront systemic inequities directly.

Leeds Trinity University has been shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community at this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Awards, the “Oscars” of higher education 👏🧡

The University was recognised for its Faith Trail initiative, which was designed to improve engagement between student police officers and the local community, in response to a widespread lack of trust in policing among ethnic minority groups.

The initiative is embedded within the Policing curriculum and combines academic study, experiential learning, and community dialogue, through lectures about migration histories in West Yorkshire, followed by structured visits to faith institutions and community centres.

Since its launch in 2024, more than 500 students have participated, reporting increased confidence and improved understanding of migration, identity, and community dynamics.

Leeds Trinity University will close at 5:00pm on Friday 28 August and reopen at 9:00am on Wednesday 2 September.

Recovery initiatives supported by Leeds Trinity University are showing that community participation can help people overcoming addiction to rebuild their lives.

Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Leeds Trinity and Recovery Connections, and supported by Innovate UK, cities across the North of England are becoming Inclusive Recovery Cities, pledging their commitment to making recovery a valued part of civic life.

This is achieved through public facing celebration events and activities, such as walking or running groups, sober festivals, and high-street recovery cafes, where people can work and socialise, allowing those in recovery to become physically present in the community, gain a sense of purpose, and build valuable skills.

With the number of Inclusive Recovery Cities projected to reach 30 by the end of the year, early findings are showing how community collaboration can support recovery in a more effective and sustainable way 👇
