Today our Level 4 SENDI students took part in a collaborative activity exploring the question: What makes a mentally healthy school?

Using discussion, drawings and shared ideas, they created a visual display highlighting key features of supportive school environments. Their work identified the importance of safe and welcoming spaces, calm and sensory areas, flexible routines, clear structure through visual timetables, and access to trusted adults and mental health support.

They also emphasised inclusive practices such as listening to pupils, welcoming individual needs, allowing tools like fidgets and ear defenders, and working in partnership with families.

A thoughtful and creative session that reflects the students’ growing understanding of inclusive, relationship-centred practice in education.

This morning, Level 5 students explored research methods. They had a lot of fun designing a quantitative study using Haribo (deduction methods featured) and planning a qualitative focus group.

This afternoon, the Masters students got hands-on with Play-Doh, building their assigned parts of the brain: temporal, frontal, occipital, and parietal. We spent time learning about brain functions, key drivers, and neuroplasticity, all with a practical focus on how this relates to different presentations of SEND and importantly what this means for support and care.

Brilliant day!

Fine Motor Skills: “Glove Challenge”

First year SENDI students collected items with socks on their hands and then created pictures with them to feel what it’s like to experience barriers to fine motor skills, then linking that experience to learning outcomes.

It was framed as experiencing barriers to understand how environments and expectations might need to change with an emphasis on empathy and understanding, and importantly not “pretending to have a disability.”

Black History Month October 2025 - there are events happening on campus which look really interesting and insightful. SENDI students, remember the ‘I’ stands for inclusion, so these events will be very relevant to your studies. Try to get to as many as you possibly can.

We are thrilled to announce the release of our very first online conference series: Reimagining Education. 🌱

From May through to July, we were joined by experts and educators at various stages of their careers, who shared valuable insights on current educational issues impacting the sector and answered questions from the audience.

Each session held a different format, from panel discussions to leadership debates, as well as a showcase. The series aimed to address 3 themes: Mastering Student Engagement, Integrating Outdoor Learning and Leadership Matters.
