In the next few weeks, some of the Humanities and Heritage course reps will be sharing how they de-stress.

Brandon (Any/all), first year Classical Studies rep, has said their way to destress is:

'Baking is my go-to whenever I get stressed or overwhelmed. It's a subconscious thing, I will have too much on my plate then suddenly get an urge to make bread or cakes. It's a very familiar activity that I feel I can regain some sense of control with, not to mention that it's leisurely for me, I can spend all day on it and by the time I'm finished I'll have a treat to enjoy as well!'

In collaboration with the school rep of Film, Media and Journalism , our first individuals behind the lens are Marie Høeg (1866-1949) and her partner Bolette Berg (1872-1944)

Høeg and Berg were Norwegian photographers from Horten, Norway. Marie, the more outgoing of the two, was an active women's rights advocate, specifically a suffregette, who also enjoyed crossdressing in private. Berg worked more behind the camera. The two women are believed to have met while studying photography in Finland during the early 1890s. They moved to Horten where they set up a studio together in 1895.

As you are aware, parts of Turkey and Syria have been destroyed by an earthquake, with many lives lost and the number of casualties continuing to rise. We also have students in our community who have been directly impacted by this crisis. To help people in Turkey and Syria, the Red Cross Society ( redcrossoncampus) is hosting a bake sale fundraiser on Monday, March 13th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Minerva building, with all proceeds going to those in need. An interfaith vigil will be held outside the Minerva on Wednesday, March 15th, at 12pm, with donations also being collected. If you are able, please attend those events and encourage other students and staff to do the same. Even sharing this around will make a difference! 🙌🏼

On Monday there will also be distributing leaflets about the vigil - Turkish students themselves are coming to place them around, so feel free to join. ❤️

If anyone or know anyone who has been directly impacted by the crisis, please get in touch and I can signpost to the relevant contacts.

My heart is with everybody affected by this crisis ❤️

School rep's aims #1

Hey everyone! I am back on my account and looking forward to my involvement again in the next academic year. I would like to share with you my first aim:

'To create an inclusive environment for all Humanities and Heritage students'

I would love to create a one community within our school and work closely with students on different courses.

This would be done through your wonderful course reps, who represent your year and course and upcoming events I am hoping to plan!

More to come!!
