CHARACTER PROFILE-
Sam Milne- Queen Gertrude
Character Description-
Hamlets mother, Queen of Denmark who still holds the title after marrying her dead husbands brother, Claudius. A bit of a complex character that goes on quite a journey in the play and her motives are always questioned. One thing is for sure; she cares and loves her son very much and only wants the best for him.
How’s Rehearsals Going? –
Really really well! Even though it’s been a really tiring rehearsal process, it’s been SO much fun and also super organised so we can get the best out of every single scene in the play. We did a 6 hour rehearsal today in full costume and ran the show a couple of times. It went so well and I think that’s made everyone in the cast that little bit more excited as we’re seeing that all our hard work is definitely paying off!
Feelings About The Show? –
Ermmmm haha! If you asked me this a couple of weeks ago I would have said REALLLYYY SCARED but to be honest after the amount of rehearsals and planning that’s been going on since then, I’m now feeling so so so excited with just a hint of nerves haha.
Thing I'm Most Excited About? –
Apart from being on stage for the first time with all the lights and sound involved and hearing the audiences reaction afterwards… (SOPPY ALERT) I’m most excited about sharing the stage with one of the best casts I have ever worked with and been a part of. ANDDD showing off what we’ve all worked so hard on these past few months. It’ll be so rewarding.
What Do You Like Most About Your Character? –
I like how with Gertrude, because she is a complex character; you could play her anyway you want to as her motive and intentions are questioned (good or evil?). I found that there were so many different interruptions of the character when researching which is exciting because it allows myself to put even more of my own spin on things. Saying that, she’ll always be that character who cares so much and I love playing that side of her.
Favourite Part To Play? –
I love the scenes with Guilderstone and Rossencraft as they have been so fun to rehearse and so hilarious! but I love love love the scene after Corambis’ death where Gertrude sees the extent of Hamlet’s ‘madness’ insisting that he sees and hears his dead fathers ghost.
