A visit to the vet was the treat in store for Linlithgow and District 41 Club members on Wednesday 3 April. Stuart McMorrow, Company Director and Veterinary Surgeon had invited the group to visit his ‘West Port Vets’ at the premises in Mill Road Industrial Estate, Linlithgow Bridge. The first thing to impress the group was how modern and spacious the premises were. Once inside, Stuart gave the group a tour of the facilities which included dedicated dog and cat wards with spacious recovery kennels and an ultra modern cat recovery area. Stuart has invested heavily in high-tech equipment including digital x-ray cameras, endoscopes, ultrasound machinery as well as a full sterile theatre with specialist surgical and orthopaedic operating kit. Although obviously proud to show us the facilities on offer, he wanted to point out that the thing that made the business different and successful was the quality of the team around him and that he couldn’t do it without them! Asked if he wanted the business to grow bigger, (he already has a clinic in Queensferry and one in Edinburgh) he said “No”, he was not a businessman as such and he was happy to do his independent ‘Vet thing’ to the highest standards locally. Stuart accompanied the 41 Club members to Linlithgow Golf Club for dinner where a vote of thanks was given by James McCallum who thanked him for an informative, interesting and entertaining visit to the clinic.

Linlithgow and District 41 Club held their Annual General Meeting at Linlithgow Golf Club on Wednesday 3rd May. Outgoing Chair, John Caddle, thanked the committee members for their support during his year. He praised the high quality of all of our guest speakers and thanked Doug McEwan for hosting an excellent visit to Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway Museum. Special mention was given to Neil Edwards for his work in producing the, now famous, ‘Black Bitch’ Marches award winning float. The first photograph shows John passing the Chain of Office to Alan Evans with Vice Chair Robin McAdam looking on.

We had our November meeting last night at the Golf Club. Our guest was Alistair Old, Secretary of the Fraternity of Dyers. He gave us an update on the campaign to stop the change of name of the Black Bitch Tavern and thanked the 41 Club for all the support we have given the campaign so far. We all agreed that we would continue to support Alistair in whatever way we could. In one of the photos (below) our Chairman, John Caddle, proudly displays the Black Bitch insignia on the Chairman’s medal.
