📍 Where are you from? You may be surprised 😆 I'm from Liverpool, born and bred, as they say!
💼 What is your role at UOLIC? Academic Leader (overseeing FC Business, Law and Social Science and PM programmes). I also am the Module Coordinator for the Architecture programme as well as teaching on that module. I am Professional Networks Coordinator for the College too.
😊 Tell us a little about yourself. What do you want to know about me!?.....I am a trained Illustrator with a Graphic Design and Illustration degree and a Masters in Children's Book Illustration as some of my education history. I have taught in a number of educational settings ranging from primary and secondary SEN to prison education, further education and higher education.
⭐ Why did you choose to work at UOLIC? For all the students, the diversity, being able to support as well as learn myself about other countries, and, also being able to write and help set up the first art-related programme here at UoLIC was a bonus! Furthermore, being able to link with UoL. It's also very different to the previous education settings that I've worked in (especially, prison education, to say the least!)
✨ What do you enjoy most about working with our students? Supporting them, guiding them, sharing experiences and finding out about different cultures, but mainly seeing students thrive, develop and progress and get to where they want to be and generally develop in life.
🏆 What is your proudest achievement or favourite memory at the College? As mentioned earlier, writing, helping to set up and delivering the first art related programme here at UoLIC I suppose. Each results day brings favourite memories too.
💫 What advice would you give to international students? To embrace the moment. You've already come a long way, to the UK. Embrace the learning, the independence, the food, the different cultures, the city and beyond, but every achievement, even if small is a major achievement. Make the most of your time and experience, both educationally, but socially too. Plus, ask! Always ask! No question is a stupid question, question all the time!
🎉 What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Lots! Examples include music- gigs, friends and family meet ups and meals, helping my gardens grow and travelling wherever I can near and far. In my 'spare time' - painting and I illustrate childrens' books, I exhibit work and complete private commissions too. To relax I binge watch the latest seasons of, usually, crime related drama and love a good horror film!
