Thanks to a legacy gift from University of Liverpool alumna Ruth Hildegard Cannell, languages, cultures and film students from under-represented backgrounds are able to access transformative year abroad opportunities. 💙 🌎

The Ruth Cannell Scholarships Fund will support undergraduate students from widening participation backgrounds who are preparing to undertake a year abroad.

Ruth described her time at the University as some of the happiest years of her life, and her lifelong passion for languages, travel and learning continues to inspire future generations.

We are sincerely grateful for this generous support.

It was great to catch up with our alumni in Hong Kong earlier this month 💙

Alumni joined Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones and Dean of the Management School, Professor Julia Balogun, along with colleagues Michaela Riches and Anita Irving from the Development and Alumni Relations team for a special reception.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. It was fantastic to see so many alumni there connecting, networking and sharing their Liverpool journeys.

1996 ➡️ 2026

After 3 decades (not long in geological time) our Geology and Physical Geography graduates reunited for a long overdue reunion at the Jane Herdman Building on the University of Liverpool campus.

The afternoon included attending a research group lecture before a drinks reception, where many stories were shared reminiscing on field trips with peers and attending academic staff, before a tour of the old and new teaching facilities and old campus haunts.

Thanks to everyone that made the day memorable.

A wonderful evening with our University of Liverpool alumni community in Singapore 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week. It was fantastic to see graduates from different years, industries and backgrounds coming together to network, share experiences and make new connections within the Liverpool community.

A big thank you to our amazing Singapore Alumni Ambassadors for helping bring the community together and supporting the event on the evening.

Happy 100th Birthday to our honorary graduate Sir David Attenborough 🎉

Thanks to support from the Alumni and Friends Fund Grant, funded by donations to the Student Fund, Liverpool University Fencing Club has been able to renew and expand its equipment, helping to create a safer, more inclusive, and more enjoyable environment for its members 🤺

Speaking about the impact, club president Jackie said: “We were incredibly lucky to receive funding. So far, this has helped us support 60 new members, and we've already seen increased engagement at training sessions.”

Thanks to our alumni and supporters, opportunities like this continue to thrive. 💙

Mary Ann Hughes, who sadly passed away in 2022, studied at the University of Liverpool in the mid-1960s.

Inspired by her travel adventures with her parents and siblings as a little girl, she decided to study Geography and gained her degree in 1967.

Mary's care for students continued after she passed, as per her wishes, she left a gift in her Will to support students in need at the University of Liverpool through the Student Fund.
