During this semester, several of the BA History of Art & Museum Studies students at Liverpool John Moores University have been honing their curatorial skills on 'Snapshot' exhibitions in the John Lennon Building, Liverpool.

The student 'Snapshot' interns have curated three exhibitions with professional artists and art historians, and are continuing work on a fourth, based on an open call. They were supported by their tutors, Dr. Hana Leaper and Dr. James Schofield.

Today, first-year students from the BA History of Art & Museum Studies course at Liverpool John Moores University enjoyed a visit to the World Museum, Liverpool. We were honoured by a curatorial tour from the Lead Curator of the Global Collections, Meghan Backhouse. Meghan explained the history of the collections, future plans, and pointed out some highlights. One amazing highlight was the Amoxtli Tezcatlipoca Codex from Mexico, which is only on display every ten years due to its fragility and importance. This is a sixteenth century illustrated manuscript and is one of only fifteen in the world!
The rest of the visit focused on the African collection, but we also had the chance to see items from Tibet, China, and New Zealand, for example, which reinforced what we had done earlier in the semester on our Global Art module.

Congratulations to final year students Lili Curtis and Eva Teal on the massive success of their exhibition ‘The Art of Q***r Resistance’, in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool. Part of the Unconforming Life Collective, which serves to uplift Q***r artists local to Liverpool and the North of England, The Art of Q***r Resistance exhibition was the collective's first group exhibition, acting as a response to the mistreatment of transgender people in the North of England. The exhibition also emphasised the importance of supportive communities such as Liverpool's music scene, and its significance to q***r people. This was part of Lili and Eva’s major project for their BA(Hons) History of Art and Museum Studies degree.

This was part of their 'Collaboration with Contemporary Art' module, led by Dr. James Schofield. They met Fine Art students, discussed contemporary art practises, and how ideation of artworks happens. More collaborative events like this are planned across our School of Art and Creative Industries in the future!

Congratulations to Michelle Woods- final-year History of Art & Museum Studies student at Liverpool John Moores University! For six weeks Michelle has been working with students at St. Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School in Wigan. Together they explored art history and how art can be beneficial to wellbeing. The culmination of the project was an exhibition yesterday at the school. Teachers, parents, students and friends gathered to look at the art that was created over the six weeks. It was wonderful to see the comments written by the students in which they stated their appreciation for this opportunity both to learn about art history and to express themselves. Thank you to the school and congratulations Michelle!
