Global Competition Winners!
Our team has made us so proud. 712 entries from 89 countries across the world, 5 winners get to complete their proposed experiment at one of the world’s largest collaborative experimental laboratories.

Our team, the Mobile MIPs, were one of the winners and now have a two week all expenses paid visit to DESY in Hamburg to complete their experiment!

“Our team plans to test if the CMOS sensors in mobile phones can be used as a low-cost beam telescope using the electron beam at DESY,” explain our team. “The CMOS sensors have a projected comparable resolution to current particle detectors and will later be used to study cosmic rays. We are delighted and honoured to be invited to DESY.”

Their success has been shared across the scientific communities webpages, and you can also read their proposal here;

We love being a part of the {u}-maths network. Jeremy is our Careers Lead across the network and did a deep dive on our provision, to help see what we do to share good practice and advice areas we could develop further from his knowledge of his and other maths schools.

He spoke to staff, parents, students, careers link trustee, our careers advisor and pictures here is our Careers Lead Dave, Jeremy and Yozu COO Paul Davies who is our Enterprise coordinator.

A really useful day. Thanks to all who were involved. We always want to maximise impact in our work.

After a Joy of Photography assembly from Dave, we presented the weekly winners of Tracy’s amazing weekly photo challenges. Their photos will become part of a display in school. We are getting a lot of art on the walls now! What do you prefer, posed or natural photos, here is a side by side comparison to consider. All weekly winners are voted for by staff, the photo of the year is voted by staff and students.

The winning photo was from Cody, which is an amazing and an atmospheric photo from the Lake District. Well done Cody and everyone who took part.

More to come next year, thanks to Tracy for running this great opportunity.

Before Easter we had a wellbeing day for year 12, this started with a History walk where we explored some points of interest on the way to the Liverpool Cathedral. Headteacher Damian acted as a wonderful tour guide, explaining The Great Famine in Ireland and how this led to emigration, including many to Liverpool which has helped shape the culture in the city.

Lyla and Paula visited last week to delivery a session on British Sign Language to Year 12. Lyla decided she wanted to teach a range of people and workplaces about sign language, with one goal being to support individuals to engage deaf people in conversation, without wondering how to start. We also learnt a variety of words and were given great confidence to give it a go. There were lots of questions asked at the end, and it was great to see so many students trying signing after the session. Lyla has moved her target from 50 sessions to 200! She is currently on 191, amazing work Lyla.

A really enjoyable session, thank you so much!
