LSESU Women in Research Society

LSESU Women in Research Society Our main goal is to create an open space for academic development and support for our members, encouraging more women to pursue a career in research.

We want to discuss constraints faced by women in research and highlight the valuable contributions women in research are making, as well as provide an open space for academic development to encourage more women to pursue a career in research! We are a new LSESU society aiming to provide a space to discuss the constraints faced by women in research and highlight the valuable contributions women in

research are making. The constraints women in research face do not only reduce the opportunities available to women but also reflect the way knowledge is produced and reproduced. We seek a more pluralistic production of knowledge. Therefore, we also aim to address intersectional constraints and invite all persons who are interested in participating in the society. We would like to offer skills workshops, academic panel discussions, career opportunity events, and a mentoring program to empower, inform and inspire our members. Please sign up for the Women in Research society online at: https://www.lsesu.com/communities/societies/group/17167/ to receive invites to all our events and opportunities, as well as regular updates!

Today we have Dr Sara Camacho Felix to share with us her passion for her research field.

Sara Camacho Felix is Assistant Professorial Lecturer for the Atlantic Fellows in Social and Economic Equity programme at the International Inequalities Institute. Being a member of LSE’s Decolonising Collective, she is dedicated to reframing LSE education through a decolonising lens to better understand the assumptions made about university study, identity and equity.

Sara says, "I’m passionate about my research because it allows me to understand how higher education can perpetuate social inequalities and subvert those inequalities to offer hope. "

She considers her research as "both an intellectual act of understanding systems of oppression and everyday practice of challenging them.“

Sara's passion for intellectual work is "directly tied to a love for humanity and a desire to work, in solidarity with others, towards dismantling and creating more equal higher education systems."

We share the same belief as Dr Sara Camacho Felix and wish to inspire future researchers with her passion💪💪 Stay tuned for more inspiring female figures!🧍

What drives you to the area that you decided to devote yourself to?🧐🧐

Maren Toft, a postdoc fellow from the University of Oslo focusing on class and social structures gives us her answer for choosing sociology. 👀

"At times of growing inequalities, I believe deciphering the cultural, social, spatial and biographical dimensions involved in the concentration of power and the preservation of large fortunes is an important task for the social sciences.”

We aim to keep collecting ideas from female researchers regarding their passion for academics. Please stay tuned for more inspiring women figures!🙌👭
