Within our recent CAB applicant survey we wanted to find out why international applicants were focused on studying law in England and Wales. They told us these factors were crucial in their decision-making:
- The reputation of course providers
- The quality of legal education and training
- The international portability of the qualification
- The career prospects in the UK
Cost was also a factor in comparison to other legal jurisdictions.
Those who had researched their options, focusing on qualification routes, course fees, location of provider and study options were best prepared.
For others, they were aware they would have benefitted from doing more research and had been surprised by:
- Course eligibility criteria
- Fees required to study and qualify
- Study and assignment workload expectations during their studies
- Requirements regarding course funding and payment of fees
- Rules around external funding
- Visa requirements and deadline dates
- Course content not aligned to their career goals
LawCAB provides a dedicated section for international applicants, including for those qualified in law in another jurisdiction, along with detailed guidance for any student wanting to gain a postgraduate qualification in law in England and Wales.
