KLC is a established design school with an international reputation for providing career focused education with a rounded practical approach. The main school is uniquely located in the heart of the interior design industry at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour and the garden design studio is based at KLC and within the historic gardens of Hampton Court Palace. Both locations are ideally situated to all

ow students to absorb many wonderful heritage and cutting edge buildings, interiors, gardens and museums. Emphasis is placed on creating a professional, friendly and inclusive environment with a focus on individual development to help students achieve their full, creative potential and derive maximum benefit and enjoyment from their studies. Tutors ensure from the start of a course that students have a real sense of belonging, are well orientated to the surrounding area, and form friendships through social gatherings so they can fully engage with the learning process. Extensive academic, welfare and careers support is provided for students. The school benefits from the broad range of industry links built up over the years which includes a prestigious Advisory Board and also works closely with the KLC Alumni Association. In recognition of the value of design and the ability of designers to improve the quality of people’s lives at home, work or leisure, wherever possible, validated courses include the opportunity for students to work on at least one community project. The school offers a wide range of accessible and flexible study methods. It is known for providing a high quality learning and teaching experience via both on site and online learning and has become a leading exponent of online delivery in recent years. Diploma and degree courses are validated by the University of Sussex.

✨ Student Spotlight: Corinne Zemp ✨

As part of their final project, BA (Hons) Interior Design students developed a social design proposal exploring how interior design can respond to contemporary societal needs through thoughtful, human-centred design.

Corinne Zemp’s project, Where Lived-in Layers of Life Intertwine, explores how interior design can foster connection, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

Responding to social isolation and the growing need for accessible housing, Corinne designed an intergenerational living environment that brings together people of different ages and backgrounds. The scheme balances private and shared spaces, creating opportunities for everyday encounters, knowledge exchange and meaningful connection.

Through careful spatial planning, materiality and human-centred design, Corinne’s project demonstrates how interior spaces can support community while respecting the individuality of those who inhabit them.

Graduation Day 2026! 🎓

Today our School of Design celebrated Graduation Day at Senate House, just a stone’s throw from our London campus. We were delighted to welcome students, family, friends, tutors and design industry professionals to celebrate the achievements of our garden design and interior design graduates.

We were honoured to welcome our 2026 Fellow, Edward Bulmer, who shared an inspiring address before the presentation of awards across our diploma and degree programmes.

The ceremony also celebrated outstanding student achievement through a range of industry prizes, including the Homes & Gardens Award for Contemporary and Creative Design, the United in Design Award for Inclusivity, the RIBA Award for Design Drawing and the Trustees’ Prize, presented by West Dean Trustee Yen-Yen Teh.

Congratulations to all of our graduates. We are incredibly proud of everything you’ve achieved and wish you every success as you begin the next chapter of your design careers ✨

Garden Design Diploma students Victoria and Lucy were recently named finalists in the Royal Windsor Border Competition 🌿

The concept behind their finalist border, Rooted in Recognition, explores our connection with woodland ecosystems:
Rooted in Recognition, inspired by Rooted in Nature, responds to the growing disconnect between children and woodland ecosystems. By age ten, many can recognise thousands of logos yet struggle to name common plants and wildlife, though naming is the first step toward connection.

As woodlands face increasing pressure from habitat loss, climate change, and human activity, nurturing understanding is vital. The border draws on the frond shape of a fern, highlighting the natural shapes we see in nature, while a magnifying-glass motif encourages careful observation and curiosity. Habitat features highlight biodiversity, and take-home cards inspire continued exploration in local woodlands.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of the Associate Director West Dean (London) and Deputy Head of the KLC School of Design, West Dean London.

Antony Greaves has been appointed to the newly created role of Associate Director West Dean (London), and Professor Ian de Vere as Deputy Head of the KLC School of Design, West Dean London.

The appointment of two new senior roles to its academic and strategic team, reinforcing the School’s commitment to innovation, industry excellence, and future focused design education.

Join us on 10 June at KLC School of Design for Senses Matter: The Value of Sensory Approaches to the Domestic Sphere. A one-day conference exploring how sound, smell, touch, memory and atmosphere shape our experience of home.

The day brings together an exciting lineup of guest speakers, researchers and practitioners whose work spans architecture, interior design, material culture and sensory history. From neuro inclusive housing and domestic soundscapes to collective cooking, demolition, drawing air, and the rituals of cleaning and homemaking, the programme opens up new ways of thinking about the spaces we inhabit.

Meet alumnus Adam Knight of , recently recognised by Homes & Gardens as their ‘Next in Design 2025’ winner ✨

After graduating in 2012, Adam built experience across leading studios including Salvesen Graham and Nicola Harding, as well as working in-house on international restaurant projects for Jamie Oliver. In 2020, they founded their own studio, Nefarious Interiors, driven by a passion for creating spaces that bring joy.

"The word “nefarious” means “to be wicked,” and we embrace that by breaking rules, challenging conventions, and turning negatives into positives within the spaces we design. Whether working with commercial or residential clients, our goal is to make interior design accessible to everyone. "

From central London townhouses and Georgian manor houses to restaurants and even doggy daycares, the studio’s diverse portfolio reflects a bold and personal approach to design. Their work has earned widespread recognition, most recently being named ‘Next in Design 2025’.

We asked Adam what advice they would give to aspiring designers…
"say yes to as many opportunities as possible. Be open to new ideas, processes, and experiences which is how you truly learn. Networking is equally important, as interior design is a people-driven industry built on relationships. Finally, be yourself. Your individuality is what will ultimately attract studios and clients alike."
