Hello everyone,

If you can make it this afternoon or evening, please head to best western hotel, se15 5eu to resist a deportation raid that will take asylum seekers to Rwanda. This is the first round of deportations.

Wear masks and keep identifiable features such as hair/tattoos hidden.

3years ago also in Peckham, there was a successful resistance and I believe this will be too, with numbers.

Please take time to read this important infograph we made about the alarming rise in homelessness amongst refugees. We investigate how policy changes directly impact the most vulnerable and create extreme situations.
The Criminal Justice Bill has measures that will allow police the power to “move on nuisance” rough sleepers who have excessive smell and noise disturbance. Suella Braverman called rough sleeping a “lifestyle choice” when in reality it happens after a series of systemic failures.

This language does nothing but further shame people who are at their lowest points. Keep an ear out for this topic’s development.

This year’s theme is ‘Refuge’; As Britain’s government continues building its hostile environment towards refugees, migrants and multi-generational immigrant families, we turn to literature as ‘refuge’. Poetry can help us seek the inner dialogues of those who have experienced displacement, against the noise of misinformation & conservative rhetoric.
Poetry is also a powerful outlet for those displaced to remember the journeys taken and articulate feelings that may have been neglected by the effects of trauma & dispossession.

The poems I have selected are from the National Poetry Day website as well as personal choices. The first one is from Goldsmiths’s very own Professor Michael Rosen!

Last term was so energising and rewarding for our society. We have made a wonderful circle of members who always show up with enthusiasm and collaboration🧡
Our events ranging from the bake sale, collaboration, festive stall and viewing of the animated documentary Flee were all so engaging and fun!
We cannot wait to begin this new term with our up and coming projects…

Join us tomorrow for an informative session on STAR’s Equal Access campaign- a movement to ensure that people seeking asylum or refugee protection in the UK are able to access higher education. We will be joined by Abdullah, an Equal Access activist, who will share his own story of accessing higher education. Followed by a collage-making workshop and discussion of what an ideal HE system could look like and further actions we can all take to ensure a more inclusive system for all.

Hi everyone, tomorrow at our monthly 17:30 meeting we will be showing FLEE so feel free to bring along friends and snacks!! FLEE tells the extraordinary true story of a man, Amin, on the verge of marriage which compels him to reveal his hidden past for the first time.

An animated documentary telling the true story about a man's need to confront his past in order to truly have a future. Amin arrived as an unaccompanied minor in Denmark from Afghanistan. Today, at 36, he is a successful academic and is getting married to his long-time boyfriend. A secret he has been hiding for over 20 years threatens to ruin the life he has built for himself. For the first time, he is sharing his story with his close friend.

Wow! How wonderful was our trip to !
There were so many themed walks around the space, one which we all especially enjoyed was the ‘Migration Means Business’. This took us through family run Chinese Takeaways to multinational companies.
💫
Migrant Entrepreneurship is an enterprise of courage- to enter a new country and a new market, to sacrifice and provide for one’s family.
There were so many inspiring stories within the space. If you missed out, we all encourage you to visit!!!
