ArchiDo

ArchiDo We trigger creativity and unlock imaginations ! At ArchiDo we learn through doing and experience. Our workshops trigger creativity and unlock the imagination.

Archido is an architectural educational organisation, that creates learning through doing workshops for children so they can experience the wonder of architecture. Way back in the 90's, three aspiring architects arrived at Nottingham University, pencils sharpened and set squares poised, ready to share their creativity and ideas with the world. Working together in the studio, day and night (a lot o

f nights !!) sketching, modelling and debating designs, they experience the wonderment of Architecture. Fast Forward 20's years, we are still great friends but are also now experienced architects and mothers and want to combine our two loves... architecture and children !! Between us we have a fair few buildings tucked under our belts and yet we are definitely still bursting with ideas. We feel passionate about creating opportunities for children to share the same wonder we experienced about architecture and the buildings around them and this is what Archido is all about. They allow children to explore architecture and their environment though experimenting with all sorts of materials and techniques. We are not trying to teach children how to become architects, but we inspire them to be inquisitive about their surroundings, promote observation and foster a culture that encourages everyone to contribute to their environment.

Many incredible buildings are inspired by the shapes we find in nature. ArchiDO explored autumnal shapes by making a crazy colourful nature graffiti wall. If you fancy trying it at home over half term here is how....

1. Paint a large piece of wood. Preferably a light colour so your sprays show up.
2. Fill up spray bottles with watered down paint.
3. Hunt round the garden or woods for interesting shapes made by nature like leaves, beech nuts, grasses and flowers.
4. Now you are ready to nature graffiti !!
5. Place the shapes on the painted board and spray around the shape. When you remove the shape you will be able to really explore the silhouette left behind.
6. If you up for some more 'Doing', once the paint has dried you could get out a marker pen and use your shapes to create weird and wonderful buildings and structures.

DO get creative and DO have fun !

Some of you might be wondering how the workshops went on Friday ? We certainly had a full day of Doing !

At all three workshops the pupils demonstrated a combination of pure excitement, extreme creativity, deep concentration and joy... We tested out the concept of scale in the hall and PE cupboard (I don't think the PE cupboard has had so much use in one day! ) and then channelled our learning into building the most unbelievable city scenes using a vegetable printmaking technique. One child said she "was so proud of what they had made together". We were pretty proud too. Great work Malvern Way School.

One more sleep to go !! Nearly there but presently feels like the night before a crit at university. .
