It's Women's Week! 🌷

Join us for our first ever cross campus Women’s Week, bringing together students, staff and societies from across the university in a collective celebration of strength, talent and leadership.

Led by your QMSU President ( ), alongside BLSA Women’s Representatives Divyani and Madhura, this week we are reclaiming our narrative in pink, redefining what it means to take up space, to lead, to speak and to be seen.

This week is about more than celebration. It is about action. It is about amplifying voices that are often unheard, challenging barriers that still exist and building spaces where everyone can thrive. Through events such as Sip & Paint by Numbers (Thursday), Design a Memory Box (Monday 3 March) and Glow Netball (Wednesday), come and get involved.

Join us. Celebrate with us. Learn with us. Stand with us.

See all events on our website! 🎉

It’s been such an honour to serve as a QMSU Exec Officer over the past two years, first as VP Welfare and then as President.

I’m proud to have led the first all-Muslim team in QMSU history. During my time in office, I worked hard to secure funding for the SU Lounge, improve campus lighting, launch a new investment forum, lead the Democracy Review, expand the Food Pantry, push for a review of the Financial Assistance Fund, and run the university’s biggest-ever survey on faith spaces.

Alhamdulillah for the opportunity to serve and for everything we were able to achieve together.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of staff, mentors, friends and family. I’m truly grateful to each of you.

This role has had its challenges, but it’s been a real privilege to work for students every single day. I’ve learned so much and will carry this experience with me always.

If I’ve ever fallen short, I hope you’ll forgive me. Thank you for the memories, the trust and the kindness.

And while I couldn’t quite get a chinchilla on campus, I hope I still made you proud.

With love and God bless,
Tahmid :)

A very special moment this week at QMSU as our President, Tahmid, unboxed a set of old Union photos donated by the son of a former Queen Mary student.

Alan Leslie Treacher studied physics here in the 1950s and clearly made the most his uni life. He was active in the cinema club (his family found loads of vintage film gear) and was apparently unbeatable at cards.

His son mentioned that Alan probably spent more time in the Union than in lectures. Despite that, he still went on to become a successful patent attorney!

He was known for being a smart, hardworking, and a kind individual to everyone, no matter their background.

Alan is pictured in the 1956 Queen Mary College Union photo (circled), which is now part of our archive along with the 1957 photo, thanks to this generous donation.

Massive thank you to Alan’s son, Piers, for sharing this piece of QMSU history with us!
