Dear postgraduate research and MRes students,

We are excited to announce the date for the annual Student Poster Evening.

This event will be held on 14th June, from 4.30pm, in the Common Room.

You are ALL invited to present a poster at this event and the first 10 entries will have their posters printed FOR FREE by the Education Office.

This date should give you all plenty of time to prepare and for those of you who are attending ARVO this year, please feel free to use your poster from there.

This event is held solely for the benefit of our postgraduate research students and is designed to help you practice your presentation skills, share ideas, and perhaps look beyond your own disciplines. There will be no supervisors or P*s present, besides the Graduate Tutors who will judge the posters and present the prizes (1st prize, 2nd prize, and 3rd prize).

The event will be held in the Common Room as usual and will be followed by drinks and pizzas. Posters will need to be set up by 2.30pm on the day. This year the judges will review the posters before the start of the event and, once the judging starts at 5pm, you will have 3 minutes to explain your research to them. Prizes will be awarded at 6pm.

TO PRESENT A POSTER: Please email me by no later than 31st May, if you wish to enter your poster and present it at this event.

TO ATTEND: If you do not wish to present, but you would like to attend, please email me by 7th June, to confirm your attendance (so we order enough pizza!)

kind regards

Pia

Dear PhD students,

Having teaching experience is very valuable when it comes to applying for other jobs when we finish the PhD. From the StARS team we are aware that, unfortunately, we do not have any teaching opportunities here at the Institute of Ophthalmology.

We would like to know how the PhD students based here at the IoO feel about this and how many people would be interested in teaching. We are planning to pass this information to the faculty level to see how they can help in providing us with teaching opportunities.

Could you please fill in this short survey (1 min) so we gather all our opinions and make a strong case?
