Ahead of the May half term, dedicated A Level teachers at NewVIc Sixth Form stepped away from the classroom to reflect, collaborate, and plan for the next academic year over afternoon tea.

From sharing best practice to exploring teaching approaches, it was a valuable reminder of the importance of reflective practice in education 🌟

We’re excited for what’s ahead!

Business Vocational Level 3 learners displayed their entrepreneurial skills by planning, promoting, and selling products and services including cakes, desserts, games, refreshments, and more as part of their formally assessed coursework units.

Through this fundraising project, students were challenged to raise money for their chosen college charities, including Cancer Research, while developing valuable skills in marketing, finance, teamwork, customer service, and event management.

The event created an amazing buzz, with students showing outstanding professionalism, creativity, and confidence throughout the day. While the final fundraising total will be confirmed once all costings are in, early estimates suggest that more than £400 has been raised so far!

What a great way to end the term; celebrating student success, enterprise, and community spirit.

Many thanks to the Learning and Development team for organising and delivering a range of practical, action-based workshops across Newham College London's campuses during Mental Health Awareness Week.

From Ikebana and Cyanotype to Fostering Psychologically Safe Teams, as well as sessions like Coffee, Culture and Chat, staff took time out to learn new skills in a supportive environment.

We’ve received some wonderful feedback from colleagues, who found the sessions enjoyable and valuable - leaving with a renewed sense of focus, fresh ideas to put into practice, and an important reminder to prioritise balance and wellbeing.

We’re taking a moment to look back at the Foundation Learning Performing Arts Group’s end-of-term Spring Showcase – and what an incredible event it was! 🌟

Last term, the group focused on developing their musical skills and brought their learning to life by performing to a full house in the theatre. They showcased a range of original pieces spanning genres from performance poetry to rap and piano.

There were many standout moments throughout the event. A special mention goes to Tharif, who performed Let It Go on the piano, accompanied by Junior, Roland and Learning Support Practitioner Nordia. Tharif played the piece using his phone rather than standard notation, demonstrating his amazing visual mathematical ability.

In spoken word, Josiah delivered a moving original poem, Wavy Waterfalls, with a message about hope.

Junior impressed the audience with his vocal talent in a rap performance of The Evidence, followed by Yahye’s rendition of God’s Plan.

The showcase concluded with a grand finale - a collaborative piece where each student contributed a verse about what gave them the blues. Performed beautifully without a backing track, it was a powerful ending.

Adrian Bond, the groups tutor, commented: “I attended all the rehearsals, but when it came to the final event, they were able to run most of the show independently. They were so confident, they didn’t need me!”

A huge thank you to the Performing Arts Group for sharing your musical learning journey with us - you smashed it!

Thanks also to the students from Barking & Dagenham College, who expertly managed the stage lighting which elevated the performance visually. 🙌
