The Artist Asylum

The Artist Asylum Welcome!

The Artist Asylum focuses on three things: creating a community of artists and art-appreciators, showcasing artist's talents at performance-based events, and working within various communities in order to make art accessible for everyone.

Who else feels like sunbeams are radiating off their souls in this heat today??

The heat is a lot to handle, but in moments like today we try to remember all of the things we will never complain about... just like our friends, this community of creatives, and everyone who has supported us on our journey.

THANK YOU ALL, and happy sizzlin'

It's fair to say we DECKED OUT Cafe Cairo for our May Alchemy.

We're currently working on a few big ideas, and we will be relocating Alchemy to a new venue after summer... can't wait to share more news with you all.

Alchemy photos are online if you haven't already seen them!

Hey everyone, hope you're all having a great summer so far!

Our mission as a social enterprise is to evolve the place that arts has in our society, ultimately, a big part of that mission for us is to support artists throughout the UK (and beyond).

Over the weekend The Artist Asylum were invited to attend the International Social Forum at the wonderful SOAS University of London - organised by the Labour Party.

With topics such as how The Artist Asylum can help champion the rights of artists throughout the state. Speakers at the event consisted of John McDonnell MP and former Brazilian president Dilma Rouseff amongst other leaders.

So thankful for events like these where our community can be heard!!

Angelo, Leui, Leah, CB.

Happy Pride Month everybody!

In honour of month and celebrating , we're going to watch BAME + LGBTQ film, Rafiki, tonight. Presented by 'Black Creators Matter' at Moving Pic Cinema. Show starts at 7pm! All details are on the link below:

Black Creators Matter presents : Rafiki

We must always be mindful that individuals from the LGBTQ+ community deserve a place in the film industry and infact, in all industries. Let us never forget that especially BAME individuals within this community deserve to be seen and heard. So thank you to Rafiki Film for giving this platform for BAME LGBTQ+ folks to do just that.

Hope you're all having a great month, let's be proud of our differences.

Illustrator, Nica Harrison is bringing us a fabulous start to this Saturday's Alchemy with the project, the Preschool Poets.

The 'Preschool Poets' project is a series of short illustrative films based on poems written by 4 & 5 year olds. All eight of these films will be shown this Saturday in Cafe Cairo's outdoor cinema tent (its so cosy) at the BEGINNING of the night, so get down on time to view them all!

Thanks to Nica Harrison for this little slice of loveliness - she will once again be showing some of her short films in the film tent of Cafe Cairo on May 18th!

It's only 10 days until Alchemy- Flower Moon ... expect a missed night of art as always, performances, and the amazing SpeakmanSound DJ'ing after the performances to finish.
