The China Studies Network is a functional network which aims to create stronger communication and dialogue amongst those engaged in all fields who are hoping to produce fresh and innovative research on China. The Network intends to become central to all scholars of China to accrue and challenge their understanding of the area. It will bring together students and researchers from across the United K
ingdom, by targeting students, either studying or researching about China, and senior scholars, who can use the Network to expand their current research areas. Our aim is to encourage better understanding between China and the UK and also to promote greater innovative research on China within the UK. The Network's Ambitions and Ethos
The China Studies Network is an association which will focus on original research on China’s political, economic and social issues. Introduction of the Network will fill the current void for those who are specialising in China, whether in Chinese studies or languages, in having a venue where young and senior scholars across academic disciplines in the area can meet each other and constructively discuss their approach to different topics. The Network will aim to inform its members of all the events and lectures taking place in every university and institution based within the UK relating to China, and will also organise lectures and seminars where students in doctoral research will be able to present their advice to policy makers. The Network will offer new research and perspectives in the area and will encourage innovative thinking. The China Studies Network will not reflect the opinions of any specific school of thought, ideology, political party, an individual or nation state. It is an association where new research can flourish and develop to help scholars and policy makers with fresh analysis on different aspects of China. This will not only assist in understanding contemporary Chinese structures and society but also allow the area of Chinese studies to strengthen and deepen. The Network hopes to provide new speakers that can offer innovative research, but the opinions of these speakers will not reflect the Network’s ethos. As a politically non-partisan association, the Network will not support or encourage any one specific point of view. The Network will only be dedicated to supporting objective and accurate research on China. As the events will involve students, the Network’s aim is to create an environment where they can think and analyse events in China from a new perspective. By informing its members of events, lectures and workshops related to China, the Network wants to act as a strong information provider on the country. Also, through organising events and lectures itself the Network will be able to select specific topics and speakers to offer their research and understanding on different areas. We would like this Network to be the centre for original, objective and interesting scholarship on China, which can help policy makers, academics and others interested in the area in formulating and challenging their ideas on China. The Network hopes to promote discourse and conversation in the area. Through promotion of new and innovative research on China, the Network will foster closer academic and scholarly communication between China and the United Kingdom.
